Joe and Bruce have always done great work for us and our family. They kept an older car running on a shoestring budget (life support fixes only) and allowed us to eek out a lot of additional miles before we had to "put her down." Work/advice on our new car has been great. With every repair, they have informed us of all our options, given their opinion (which was not always the most expensive option), and stood by their work. I'm not sure how the repair prices compare to other shops, but having faith in your mechanic is priceless....

If you love Car Talk, the radio show, you'll love this place. I live 60 seconds from a 2 shops where I'm sure I could get repairs done correctly, but instead, I drive 25 minutes through traffic and hideous weather to get to Scot (with one "T"), Bruce and Joe. Why? Because part of the car repair experience should include being harrassed and abused, and these guys are experts. Not even old ladies escape being roasted. They are equal opportunity wise guys. I've been bringing them my cars for something like 20 years, and I've never been dissatisfied with the results. I don't know how their prices compare to other places, but it doesn't matter as much as peace of mind. They helped me keep a geriatric Ford Taurus alive for longer than it should've lived. Same with my previous car, a Honda Accord. If you like to have a relationship with one particular mechanic, choose Scot. Bruce is very soft spoken, and whenever he's about to say something, he starts up a loud power tool. I think he does it to drive customers crazy, or make them have doubts about their hearing. If you can find a way to turn this to your advantage, then Bruce is your mechanic of choice. Otherwise, stick with Scot, whose approach to customer abuse is more straighforward and traditional. Joe spends most of his time on the phone dealing with customers & parts suppliers, so if you're lucky, he'll won't come near your car. All 3 guys are excellent at explaining repairs, by the way. And, they're very helpful in terms of planning ahead for important maintenance so you can minimize financial surprises. If your main experience with car repairs has been with a dealership, you'll wonder how those moonbats stay in business after visiting Auto Works of Mendon. I love this place!

These guys are the real deal. I drive across the whole city just to have my car work done. I trust their option and their expertise. They have saved me money by their honesty and not repairing what didn't need repairing as stated by other shops. It's really hard to find another place like it. I have been going there for over 15 years so I know.

We've lived in the area a little over 8 years, most of that time with 3 cars in the family, all used, usually near or over the 100K mile mark (when I call them now they know me just from my voice). Started using Joe and the crew about 4 years ago after cycling through 3 other garages - one closed, one was inconvenient/expensive, and one blew a clutch job and wouldn't make good on it. They are thorough, professional, practical, provide good estimates and detailed but understandable explanations, and on several occasions have recommended a wait-and-see approach on iffy issues like oxygen sensors and similar "Engine Check" phantoms when they could have made money by recommending work instead.

They are deserving of a Car Talk humor award...if there were one. They make it pleasant to take your car in for repairs and do a super job.

Bruce and Joe are amazing. They explain everything. They will tell you when a $5 solution can work instead of recommending a $500 one. I trust them implicitly. Wouldn't go anywhere else.
