I have been going to E&T Automotive for the past fifteen years. Finding a competent, honest mechanic these days is very difficult. But that's just what these guys are. They not only take pride in their work, but they go out of their way to do the right thing. Many times I've gone in for a minor repair or adjustment, and they won't even take payment. They are always going back to school to keep on top of the latest changes in the trade. They are always cheerful, friendly and the shop is always clean. A number of years ago, before E&T had the NYS inspection eqipment, I had the misfortune of going to another station for an inpection. I was told I needed ball joints. Unknown to this person was the fact that the ball joints were replaced only 8,000 miles ago. He said I failed a skid plate test. I played along and got everyting in writing, including his signature. I contacted the correct NYS enforcement bureau, but was informed by an investigator that they didn't have the means to check my vehicle to see that I didn't need ball joints at all. I contacted Angelo. He said to bring the car in with the investigator and he would show him that I didn't need ball joints by testing the car at his shop. I passed the skid test with flying colors!!!! Angelo took time away from his work to prove my car was just fine. Why? Because Angelo, Neil and Jimmy are honest and feel very bad when they hear some of the horror stories that occur out there.

I moved into the neighborhood back in September of 1986. At that time I was driving a '78 Chevy Nova and my wife was driving an '83 Nissan Sentra station wagon. The Chevy had seen a lot of action due to work and the Sentra was just one handful of problems. After moving into the area, I had sent my wife to an auto parts store for something while I was at work. While she was there she had asked the counterman if there were any good repair shops in the area where there were honest people and you could bring your car and feel safe from being over priced. Without hesitation the counter man told my wife to bring it to a place called E & T Auto Repair and to see Angelo. At that time it was only a few blocks away on Skillman Street. I brought my Nova there soon after as it was pushing a lot of black smoke out of the exhaust. Not being a mechanic, I thought that the carburetor had to be replaced. After setting up the appointment, I brought the Nova in one morning at 8 A.M. and explained the situation to Angelo. I asked him how much it would cost for a rebuilt carburetor as the car was 8 years old. Angelo told me approximately $400.00. So, being over a barrell, I told him to go ahead with the work as I didn't know where I could purchase a used car for the same price. Later that afternoon Angelo called me and told me the car was ready to be picked up and that the work had been done. I asked what the "damage report" was and Angelo told me $30.00. I thought there had been some mistake. When I got over to the shop I asked Angelo why the repair bill was so low. He told me that the carburetor was fine and that the problem the car was having was that the timing was way off causing the black smoke. If Angelo was another kind of man, he could have pulled out and cleaned up the carburetor and pocketed the extra $370.00 and no one would have been the wiser but being the honest guys that he and Neil and Jimmy are they wouldn't do that. I'll never forget this, ever!. I was so impressed by this one incident that I have been bringing my cars to them ever since. I now have a few friends that go there as well. Although at times some of the work may be extensive and costly you know you're not being cheated and that you're getting the work done by competent men who's main goal is good service and honesty to their customers.

I found these guys through Car Talk Mechanics Files and very glad I did. They are competent and honest as the day is long. Highest integrity. Sent 4 others from my workplace there, and they are all equally amazed and happy.
