Shop is usually very busy so it is a good idea to get there before opening time , especially on saturday. or late in the afternoon on weekdays. They will keep cars overnight if they are confident they can get to it the next day.

Get there early, very crowded in midday and Saturdays. They are very good at meeting promises as to when the vehicle will be ready. Will handle doing work they normally don't do such as ordering and replacing tires.

My '87 Jetta with 185,000 miles got to know the inside of the shop very well. A alternator, fuel pump, a couple of axles (CV joints), starter, hoses, belts, sensors, and on and on and on. (The car has now committed suicide by blowing an oil cooler line at 70 mph and having the oil pressure warning buzzer fail at the same time). Never had anything but excellent service from the guys. My daughter now uses them and always asks me "Dad how much is this going to cost me?" I am never off by more than $25 -- which shows they are -- at least -- consistant.

These brothers bear an uncanny similarity to you two. Mark is a licensed physics teacher.

They installed a new battery for me, because I was stuck. It took $100 worth of work to repair the damage from just jamming it in. The dealer I bought the car from did the repair. I am going to be hard pressed to go back to them again.

I have been taking my car to Mark and Bruce for about two years now. They have always been great and very honest. When the dealership told me that I needed a part replaced at 60,000 Bruce looked it up in the manufacturers book (right in front of me) and confirmed that for my model year the replacement was not necessary until 120,000 miles. That saved me close to $500! They's done brakes, shocks, new battery and oil changes for me as well as a full tune-up and the car keeps running great! Get there early in the morning. Everyone knows they are the best in the area so they get busy very fast and don't generally take appointments.

I found these guys on the mechanics files when the clutch on my car got stuck down one morning. They gave me instructions on how to try to drive it anyway, and when I couldn't manage that, gave me the number of a towing company. They fixed the master and slave cylinder in 1 day for ~$250, which was great. Then about 1 week later, I couldn't get the car into gear, and it was at my work (in Rockland county). I got it towed to their shop, and they paid the extra $$ that my roadside assistance didn't cover-- just in case it was their fault! They then found a worn tube, which they repaired at no charge. I don't even think it was their fault, but nonetheless, they acted to rectify the sitauation quickly and responsibly. They were courteous to me (a woman) throughout, and explained everything to me, even showing me the cracked parts. I cannot recommend them highly enough! (By the way, I dealt with Bruce, though I have no reason to think that the rest of the folks are any different).

I have been going there for the past 4 years based on a recommendation from a neighborhood friend. I usually deal directly with Bruce, and they have been great.

Bruce and Mark are THE GREATEST! If there is a more competent, more experienced, more honest and more reasonable auto repair shop anywhere in the Bronx, please let me know about it because I don't believe there is one! As others have advised, get there EARLY (6:30 AM is best). The shop can be full by 8 AM. For the more extensive repairs, leave the car. (They have a lot behind the shop.) If it is a while-you-wait job, you can get a bite at the pretty good Tibbet Diner on the next block.

Call them and ask for Ner (pronounced "near"). He is terrific. Honest and friendly. He's never made a mistake on my car. He's really good about telling what you have to fix and what you can live with. He doesn't try to sell you services and parts. He gives free diagnoses and estimates. Been using him for 9 years and even now that I live in Westchester I still bring it to him when I can. Highly recommended.
