Real nice people. They get the job done. My heart doesn't
race and I don't break out in a sweat when I go there, as I
do dealerships. It's soooo nice to have a mechanic you can
trust.

during years of driving cheap used vehicles, mechanics always told us when to give it up. they never did expensive repairs worth more than the vehicle. we recently had a spark plug explode out of the engine of our Subaru and although the cause was not determined to be theirs, without a doubt, they repaired the damage free of charge and still service the car. they charge us less for parts than the dealer and far less for service than the local subaru dealer, from whom we purchased the vehicle.

When the air conditioning failed on my 2000 Dodge Stratus
(purchased from local Dodge dealer in October 2005) I took
it to Gerry's Service, 9200 Transit Rd., E. Amherst, NY
14051. Gerry's had changed oil & made minor repairs on my
previous car, and I seemed to have reason to trust them.
They performed the A/C diagnostic check and found refriger-
ant in the system, but it was blowing warm air. They found
that the compressor had failed internally and would need
to be replaced, along with a new dryer and an expansion
valve, estimating the cost of required repairs at
$1460.00, including tax. We are retired, on a fixed income
and the car has no warranty --- OUCH!
We began a search to find a reliable, honest mechanic.
Your MechaniX list had excellent reviews for Hettig's
Service, Inc. which is nearby. My car went in yesterday.
We told Hettig's that the air conditioner was not working.
Period.
The result was as follows - LABOR DESCRIPTION
Service Air Conditioner. Check condition of all belts and
lines. Evacuate and recharge with R134. Test system
performance.

FREON R134 2.00 22.00 44.00

I've been taking our cars to Mark & Dan for 12 years and
have always been satisfied with the work they've done.
I've never heard a negative comment about them either!
They are good at what they do, honest, and get things done
in a reasonable amount of time. The hours are not the
best, but it's easy to drop off and pick up before and
after hours. They are not cheap, but they do not push
unnecessary repairs, and often they'll take care of the
little stuff without charging. They evaluate and advise as
to whether a repair is really necessary, taking into
account safety first, but also the age and condition of the
car. I always get a giggle too, when I pick up the van and
find they've bothered to use those paper mats that keep the
rugs clean. I spend alot of time taxiing Thing 1 & Thing 2
and their friends here & there...as a result the interior
of my van is often messier than the shop ever dreamed of
being!

Explain things very well and give honest opinion, no
pressure to have work done. A garage that you can trust!!
