Jim works Saabs exclusively. Consequently, he is a master diagnostician. He always fixes the problem right the first time, he charges a fair price, and he gets the work done on schedule. This is THE place to take you Saab in Santa Fe!

If you own a Saab in or near Santa Fe NM, get it fixed by Jim & Patti Smart. As the last name implies, they know Saabs, the good news and bad news about these fun but tempermental cars; and they do very good work at about half the price of the local Saab dealership. They are helpful regarding the cause, etc. and when I had a warranty issue (Bosh alternator) they were able to get a replacement at no cost. Their hours are consistent with the Santa Fe approach to time; and they are short on loners. But otherwise, what's not to like!

They specialize in Saabs and know them extremely well. I have never had a problem they could not diagnose and repair. I purchased a new one from a dealer and a used one from them and have been extremely happy with the purchase and the subsequent service. They are reasonably priced and extremely honest. I highly recommend them.

Jim and Patty have been working on my Saabs for years. What I appreciate the most is their honest and passionate approach. Although I have to schedule ahead for regular services, they have always taken care of any unexpected repair IMMEDIATELY- usually same day service. Loaner cars are available - but you need to book ahead to reserve one (you can't miss them) lol.

Great mechanics, but mean people. After years of verbal abuse, I decided to take my beloved Saab to another shop in Santa Fe where I get quicker service always delivered professionally and with a smile, sometimes even a little cheaper and often with more innovative and effective solutions to problems.

Oh no oh no oh no. I brought my Saab in for an estimate for one problem, which turned out to be a surprisingly reasonable one, but they said that before they would fix it, I had to repair other, more pressing problems. These prices were far from reasonable and I ended up repairing them elsewhere for half the cost. When I called in to get the first, low estimate problem fixed (3 times), I didn't receive a return call. When I finally reached them, they said that the part was unavailable. I stopped in to talk to Jim, he didn't remember me and told me that he didn't know what I was talking about. Jim was belligerent and insulting, saying that he'd like to shoot my main mechanic, that my car was a piece of..., and and and this is after I waited 30 minutes while he, on what sounded like a personal call, ignored me. And then, I took my car to two more mechanics (highly rated and in bigger cities) for the main, initial reason and they said that Jim must not have really looked at the first problem, that it was far more complicated and would take more time and be more expensive. One said that Jim probably didn't look at it, the other surmised that he might be reeling me in for the other issues. I believe them. He also told me things about my car that the others said we're not true. Is he dishonest? Is he overpriced? Probably. But he is so so so mean and unhinged, why would you want to risk it?

Their work is shoddy. Their prices are high for terrible work. My wife took her wagon in to pick up a new key we had ordered and when they pulled it into the shop they claimed the fuel pump "just went out" and charged $500. Never again!

In reading some of the reviews I'm thinking, "Does this guy have an evil twin?" Jimmy just went through a 1966 two stroke for me from grille to tailpipe and the the experience was excellent. The cost was reasonable and his workmanship is top drawer. He was willing to explain in detail what he was doing and to discuss alternatives and prices before accomplishing the work. I learned a lot from him over the process, and I used to sell those exact same cars for SAAB in Palo Alto, Ca. His bill was very clear and detailed, far better than some regular dealers I have been to, and I was able to verify all the work and parts were as charged. He is highly responsible, even to refusing to let the professional car transporter load my car unless he, Jimmy, could make sure the car was properly loaded and tied down. I have the distinct feeling that he may not suffer fools gladly, if at all. But from my money, he's a go-to mechanic for the marque. He knows his way around the older cars which require a lot more mechanical skill than the new computerized types where you just unplug and replace modules. One thing to remember is that newer cars are supposed to be trouble free for many miles and NOT made to be worked on. And that makes any work far more expensive than on the older models. Jimmy is just a good mechanic.
