On another page, I told you about the worst mechanic I ever had, in Las Cruces. To be balanced, this is a review of one of the best, also in Las Cruces. Wayne Ward did most of my car's work. He always was honest. He sometimes charged me less than he estimated. The one time something didn't suit me, he dropped his other work and fixed it right there for no extra. He is the second-best mechanic I have worked with in terms of his treatment of women, and he is really good. When I tell him what I think is wrong, he makes fun of me like he would any non-mechanic, not like a woman. (And not roughly--nicer even than Click & Clack, if you can imagine!) Everyone in the shop was professional and nice. He tells me when things are not worth fixing, and can back it with figures. When I've gotten second opinions, they match, and the other guys charged more. He's really good.

Take time to explain EVERYTHING they have done..Call to advise of what needs to be done in addition to origional request if needed..Helpful, VERY COMPOTENT!!

Wayne (I believe his name is) is such a nice and honest guy. Long story short when the rebuilt part he installed went out -I took my car back to him and he replaced it that day with an apology and no charge. (This of course is how it should be but plenty of other guys try to find a way to charge.) He always offered to check different things out that we were worried about. He spent lots of time making sure we knew what was going on with our car and let us in on what wear and tear we should look out for in the future with our cars. He is a great guy. I love how honest and friendly he was. I could totally relate to him and I didn't feel as though he was talking down to me or trying to pull a fast one on me. When my husband and I moved across the country we honestly said outloud that we were sad to leave because we had such a great mechanic!!! He is awesome!

These people are honest,reliable and competent. You can count on them for an honest estimate before work is started and you can count on them not to pad the bill with unnecessary charges or unneeded work.

The experience I most often share is the time I was near Tucson and the engine in my Ford Ranger died. I called Wayne that Saturday morning. He patiently listened to my tale of woe asking a couple of questions. Once answered, he told me what it most likely was, where to get the part, about what it cost and how to install it, cautioning me that the screw needed to be tight for this electrical component to make good contact. The tow truck arrived, loaded us up and took us into Tucson where I located the part, purchased and installed it. I did not have a tool to tighten the screw very tight, but thought I had it was tight enough. The engine would not start. I thought Wayne missed this one. I had the tow truck driver take us to a very reputable shop in Tucson where they worked three days. Yes three days, trying all kinds of things including a new computer board. After three days, the Tucson folks said they surrendered. I asked for the bill and they responded with a question, "Does it work?" The obvious answer was returned and his response was "Then there is no bill. I only ask that you call me and and tell me what I missed when it is fixed." Happily stunned, I rented a moving van and a trailer. The guys at the shop helped me load it. I drove home and took it to Wayne. In five minutes, with no charge, he had it running. The screw needed an additional quarter turn to be tight enough. That's Wayne. Competent beyond expectation, honest, available, and always friendly. What more could a customer want?

WOW! Wayne is FANTASTIC! Honest, smart, extremely competent, fair - everything you want in a mechanic. When the Toyota dealer said it would cost $3000 to get my older Toyota service - I asked Wayne. He said I can get it good enough to take on the road - to New York and back for $1200. Of course I said - please do it! That was over 10 years ago. The car is still running strong. Hope he NEVER retires. It would be very hard to find someone as wonderful, friendly, smart and honest as he is. I would trust any car to his expertise!
