John and his employees have always treated both me and my car with respect. My questions are always answered. I never feel like I'm being talked down to or rushed off, even when the garage is very busy. John will find the time to ask about my family or job, and takes into consideration individual needs and finances when recommending repairs. Many is the time John or his one of his employees has taken the time to help me out when I have dropped in with a small problem or need without an appointment. I trust his judgement and this lowers my level of stress. One time recently I arrived with a laundry list of suggested repairs from a dealership where I had had my oil changed. (Car Works is not open on weekends or evenings and I was commuting during his working hours at that time). I feared the worst but was smart enough to ask the combined Car Works brainpower for an opinion. As it turned out they found nothing wrong except the battery cables needed cleaning! Was I relieved! And I was only charged $10 for the inspection and cleaning. John is a well respected member of our neighborhood and I am glad Car Works is so close to my house.

John has been my mechanic for 16 years, since my air-cooled VW days. (I keep threatening to get another air-cooled VW, but John warns me that I might lose my mechanic, so I've settled on driving a Volvo instead.) He is always willing to take the time to answer questions about problems and is upfront and (sometimes brutally) honest about what my cars have needed over the years. When you bring your car to Carworks, the work that needs to be done gets done, on time, at a reasonable rate, and without being soaked on parts. When you are told what to expect, you show up to get your car at the end of the day, and find no surprises. Just your car, ready to go! I now live almost half an hour away from the shop, and lining up a ride from and to Carworks so I can get my car in is a pain in the rear, but worth the extra effort. John and Linda have worked hard and grown the business over the years, but as succesful as the business is (judging by the full parking lot) I am most impressed with the way their kids have turned out.

These guys are top notch. I do all my own work on my cars, but ran into a A/C problem. The local Hurlburts dealer quoted me $1,200 FOR PARTS ALONE to fix it right. I then was recommended Carworks by a close friend who lives near their shop. They quoted me $700 estimate for parts and labor, but 2 days later had the condenser replaced, AC freon conversion kit installed(required by law) and replaced the O-rings on a hose. It would have cost $100+ to replace this hose. In the end they charged me $519!!! THey took the time to explain what they did and are very honest. The A/C repair lasted until I sold the car 2 years later. If you are looking for an instant repair, you may not get it, as a quality mechanic is hard to find and busy as ever... but at this shop it's well worth the wait. -RH

The guys at Carworks are great. Honest, dependable, friendly, and never condesending. They take the time to tell you whats going on with your car. I have never felt that they have fixed anything that didn't need fixing. They are brutally honest its true, I remember John telling me that my car was about as good as scrap metal, and I should give up on it and start over. I did too, and had them check out my new one. My friend reccommended them to me, and now I'm hooked. I too make the 1/2 hour commute to bring my car to their shop.

I drive an 1986 VW Jetta with close to 200K miles. I started bringing my car to Carworks in late 2000 and since then the car has been consistently running better and better. John and his crew of mechanics have always been completely honest and straightforward with explaining the problem and have made every experience a pleasurable one. I am constantly amazed at the attention to small detail which ensured my car would be running at optimal performance. I've had everything from a simple oil change to a complete replacing of my shocks/struts and each and every time I was treated fairly and always with a smile. I highly recommend Carworks to anyone, anytime! Thank you John and your talented crew for quick, honest and top-notch work!

My last car, a Ford Taurus, was (I thought) just in the shop for repairs when John gave me the list (as he put it) of things needed to get the car operating, and to get the car operating *with heat*. Given that I live in New Hampshire and it was January, only the second option sounded reasonable, but it was pricey. John suggested I take the weekend to go car shopping, and tell him Monday if I wanted the repairs done, or would just be hauling the car off. I got the hint, and bought a new car that Sunday. Highly recommended.

I had recently moved to New Hampshire from Maine when my 93 Saturn SL1 began to give me problems. I took it to the local dealer and they were VERY honest and nice, but proceeded to tell me it would cost about $1200.00 to fix my worn out front end. I found John on the Car Talk web site and thought I'd give him a call for the old second opinion. He said he was very busy, but did call me back at about 7:00 pm. He asked me to bring it in and he would take a look at it, but he thought it would be a LOT cheaper. Turns out he was right...needed the same parts the dealer said but cost me less than half what they (the dealer) quoted me! He and his staff were very professional and a pleasure to deal with. Thanks to all who took the time to add him to the list or I may never have found him at all.
