Dias (pronounced like Diaz) is the only person I'll let touch my cars (5). Even if he's unable to do something (certain BMW work), he looks at it first before I take it elsewhere. There's little he can't do, though. His staff is friendly and competent, willing to explain in detail what your car needs. Dias is willing also to get on the Web and find the needed parts discounted (or you can bring your own). He's personable and friendly, always ready with advice and a joke (sometimes they're the same). I've had lots of mechanics in the past and Dias is one of two that I trust without question. If you have any car needing any work (other than warranty), take it to Dias. While others may have fancier shops (though his is ample), he is the best in the Triangle. By the way, he's now in downtown Pittsboro and they'll give you a ride home. Or, look at his collection of classic cars while you wait. His number is 919-542-1114 and the address is 127 Thompson St. (2 blocks north of the courthouse/circle).

I've been taking our two cars to Dias Automotive for about five years. Sometime in the first year, I was sitting in the waiting room working on my laptop while they were finishing up on my car. I could overhear Mr. Dias field calls from three different mechanics from OTHER shops. After a bit of checking, I found that when other mechanics are stumped, Mr. Dias is the man they call. This experience gave me confirming evidence that Mr. Dias is a superior craftsman with excellent diagnostic skills. His prices have always been fair, and I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Dias has worked on our cars...more or less forever. He restored my wife's '69 Beetle(mileage unknown...) and has kept our 1990 Corolla/Prizm (230k) and 2001 Echo(230k) on the road w/ a minimum of extraneous fuss and bother (before our 1983 Tercel(250k) threw a rod in 2001..he handled that one too). While, obviously, his love is for "classic" cars (old Jags, Morgans etc) our mundane, everyday cars have always been treated with equal care. A couple of times an aftermarket replacement part hasn't been quite "right" and Dias has always "made it so." He gets one of my wife's Christmas fruitcakes..which ARE the fruitcake equivalent of a classic car. He's just as happy to explain matters to my wife, who's far more mechanically minded than I, as he is to do the same for me. I only wish he were a little younger than we - instead of being our own age! We're awfully lucky..he's literally around the corner from us..And in those rare occasions when Dias is booked up and something else comes up, Performance Auto, all of a 1/2 mile down the road is v. good as well.
