I've known the owner, Robert "Dutch" Silverstein a long time (20 yrs); he is a man I trust implicitly. If Dutch says he'll fix it, I know it will be done. A 20+ year former senior pilot with US Air, Dutch knows all about cars and trucks. He employs only ASE personnel, and he and his mechanics are always taking courses on the latest technologies, etc. I trust no one but him to work on my BMW. I detail cars in Charlotte and recommend A&M to everyone of my customers, as well as friends and family. For all the mechanic horror stories I hear on Car Talk, my experience with Dutch and his shop has been nothing short of perfect. It's a refreshing breath of fresh air for anyone who's been scammed by their local shop or mechanic. Thank you. I hope my recommendation reaches the right eyes and ears, and A&M AutoService takes its rightful place on the Car Talk List.

Dutch is the BEST mechanic ever! We were new to the area and he was recommended by a friend. He answers your questions without making you feel stupid. He'll do what you ask of him and he'll also offer the most inexpensive solutions. He's honest and genuine. We couldn't be more happy with the work he's done on both of our cars. We won't go back to the dealers anymore. There's no need. Dutch takes care of everything and is fair and helpful!

"Dutch" is the most wonderful auto repair guy I have ever met. He tells me when something that has been recommended (by the inspection service, for example) is not needed. He only charged $19.95 for my 60,000 mile checkup. He makes good recommendations and I can trust him thoroughly. He is my mechanic-for-life. Jinny Sullivan

I was in need of a good/honest mechanic to repair a serious issue with my vehicle. My ride has been extremely reliable over the years needing mostly regular maintenance. I have only needed a real mechanic a few times to date, so I never established a relationship. I decided to use the Car Talk website to find that competent and trustworthy mechanic. I was able to narrow the field to four possiblities by using the evaluations on this site. Then I went one step further and checked them out through BBB and a local media review site. That process led me to pick A & M. They were professional in the way they treated me as they explained the needed repairs, but the price they gave me sounded very high. I shopped the price with my second choice. To my astonishment, mechanic #2's estimate was more than 40% lower. A & M's estimate was over $1000 so we're talking about some serious money. A $100 difference would be understandable but almost $400 isn't. I gave the job to the second mechanic and my ride was made roadworthy at a lower cost. The take away from this experience is that reviews on websites including BBB should be taken with a grain of salt. I now will always shop future repair estimates.

Dutch always explains what is wrong, how it happened, whether it needs work or not. When an inspection service recommended brake work, he inspected the brakes without charge and said it was not needed. He provides shuttle and looked up convenient bus service to my home. He treats me with respect.

There have been several times when Dutch and the gang could have not said a word when I had a situation and gouged me for work just to bring in business. Instead, they told me the cheapest way to fix something, or how to find a warranty from something I bought, thus costing themselves money. They are great with explaining things to women, showing pictures. They have the best personality, kind, warm and friendly, and don't ever make you feel stupid. They give you the full scope of what is needed, and give you their best recommendations, but leave the decision up to you. We recommend them to anyone we meet. They have been consistently honest and helpful even when they weren't getting a dime for their help.

Tried to schedule an appointment online to have my car inspected. After two days, received a response that said they ONLY schedule inspections at 8:00am. So schedule schedule your inspection online for anytime you would like as long as it's 8:00am and you should be fine. I guess they don't like doing inspections! No money in them!
