I've taken my Mazda here a few times since Riverview took over for Transport Station. Most recently, I've scheduled to have an air sensor replaced and tires put on. After the tires were installed, the general road noise I normally heard was getting louder, and when I slowed to a stop, I heard a nasty grinding noise. I took the car back to Riverview, and they replaced the front drivers- side bearing; no luck. One of the mechanics stayed well past closing time with me to try and figure out what was going on. He threw a scope into the transmission and saw that it was really low on gear oil, so he drained the transmission and filled it back up and took it for another spin. Again, no luck. He tried rotating the tires... no deal. So, I decided to drive home and drop it off later in the week, worried that the speculations of it being a transmission problem were true. I talked to the owner a couple times over the phone to get damage reports on what it would cost to replace the transmission if that was the problem. I didn't like what I heard. So later in the week I gave them my car with reservations. That same day, at around 4pm, they called and said the car was done and that it was the front passenger wheel bearing. They got to checking the problem with more than one mechanic and so they were able to pinpoint the problem. They HAD checked that bearing before while they were replacing the front driver's bearing, but it felt fine, they even showed me, and it seemed okay at the time. Guess it wasn't. A couple hundred bucks later, the car was driving quieter than when I bought it (used) 3 years ago. Completely happy with the speedy service, cost, and professionalism.

Honest, dependable, on time and friendly. What more could you want! My only non-5 rating was with hours of operation. They are open 8-5:30 which can be inconvenient, but they have a key drop and you can pay over the phone and then pick up the car after hours, so it is only a minor inconvenience.

This is the kind of mechanic everyone wishes they had. I've been going to this location for years, even when it was under prior ownership and was called Transport Station. When the current owners bought it I was worried, but they are still great. AND they do inspections now and the prior owners did not. I drop off my car keys in the slot the night before, then call them from work and tell him what I need. They have always finished it the same day, no matter how busy their parking lot looks. I've taken them parts that I bought and asked them to put them on, and they do it even though they lose the mark-up on the parts. Another think I like is that they will recommend work to you, but they don't do what many mechanics do and try to scare you into thinking you need a lot of extra stuff done that you may not even need. They just do what you ask them to, and they may say, "I noticed your engine is missing a little. You might want to think about a tune up soon."

Riverview's owner, John, runs the shop like it's part of a community of trust. He is completely straightforward and honest, and nearly always can take my car the same day I call. The lot is always full, but somehow the work still gets done quickly and competently. When I ask them to check something they explain what they see clearly, and don't suggest unnecessary repairs or sell me things I didn't request. The first thing I had them do was a timing belt change. They did excellent work for a very reasonably cost. I've taken my car there for every repair since, whether just for a routine oil change or to get my muffler replaced when it had rusted through. My car has been in great shape every time I've left the shop. Even though I've only been there every few months the last 4-5 years, they remember me every time. It feels like a community shop, and they look after their customers like they are part of a community. I said above they treat male and female customers the same, but that's only partly true—I can't help but feel that (probably in part because I am female) they are even more concerned to treat me well and make sure my car is in good working order, without being too hard on my wallet. Highly recommended.

I love Riverview. I have been here several times now for various small issues, and John and his staff have always been very friendly, professional, and have always given me a very fair price on the work they've done to my vehicle. The first time I went there I had to have a wheel bearing replaced; it was unclear which wheel bearing had gone bad, and John invited me back into the garage to watch and hang out while they figured it out and fixed it. Recently, I was preparing to take my car (which is 10 years old and has 150,000 miles) on a drive across the country and back, and I had several small issues that needed attention/repair. I initially took the car to the dealership, where I was told I would need to spend $700 on a new throttle body and almost three thousand dollars total in repairs. I wasn't convinced that I needed all the work done, and I was not willing to pay such an exorbitant price. I took my car to Riverview and told them about my car issues and my cross-country travel plans; an hour later, they told me they'd changed my oil, cleaned the throttle body, relearned the idle, and checked all the belts, fluids, et. al, all for $80. My car ran beautifully, and I drove it 7,000 miles over the next 3 weeks with absolutely no problems whatsoever. I highly recommend Riverview to anyone in the Durham area.
