I had a remanufactured engine installed by another auto repair shop which gave me numerous problems. After taking my Toyota Celica to Steve, he was able to pin point the problem and fix it right away. I needed a new cylander head and Steve was able to make all of the right diagnostics and repairs needed. Three months have passed and I haven't had any problems yet. My car's performance is execellent. I have total confidence in Steve's work. I strongly recommend him as a great mechanic.

This guy is great. He didn't actually work on my car and
that's part of what was really cool. I took my Subaru
Forester in to him, after having seen the recommendation on
this site. I was fairly certain I had a problem with CV
joints. He quoted me a price of $190 over the phone, which
he said included all parts and labor and was somewhat less
than what others had quoted. When I got there, he
said "let's take a spin and listen to this noise". He
heard it and said, that doesn't sound like CV joints and
that it may be some kind of heat shield (I don't know beans
about cars) and that if it was, it didn't need be repaired
unless the noise was realy annoying me. He checked the CV
joints just in case and came back with a thumbs up saying,
your CV joints are fine. With a wry smile, he
said "well, shoot,I was hoping to make some money today" and
sent me on my way. Long and short of it is that he could
have "taken me for a ride", charged me for something that
didn't need to be done and I would have never known the
difference. He was friendly, courteous, informative and
helpful. I'm new to Charlotte and was looking for an
honest, reliable mechanic. I think I've found one and will
definitely go back to Steve when I do have problems!

Steve Hawley is the best mechanic I have had in my life. I
call him my car psychologist. He has saved me many times
through first a Maxima when I moved to Charlotte, and now
through two Hondas in our family. He has supported me
through family traumas, emergencies and always made sure I
was safe on the road to where I needed to be during those
times. I will not buy any car that Steve could not work on
(even though he doesn't see my car the first year or so
after it's new; I still like to stop by & just visit!). I
highly recommend Steve, and when/if he ever stops working,
I will just have to stop driving. If you go to Steve, tell
him his BEST VIP customer sent you - Dalya!

Steve is a great guy and does a great job on my car and my friend's cars. Just so you know, his last name is Hawley. He will also help you at any time of the day or night. Just call the shop!

I see Steve Hawley (yes he has a last name) does not have
an updated comment for 2008. Steve is the best, there is no
other like Steve. He could be a guest on Car Talk and has
an even greater sense of humor than Click & Clack (with
apologies to Tom & Ray!).
Steve's VIP customer since 1993,
Now a 2008 Toyota owner
(after Steve kept my '94 Accord going forever, and
continues to maintain my husband's '00 Accord; when we can
get hubby's attention to those details!)

Steve Hawley of Steve's Motorsport runs an old-fashsioned
shop: no car lifts, no fancy waiting room. Toilet isn't for
ladies. But Steve does excellent work, fixes things without
charge if he messes up (rarely does), explains everything--
theory and specifics--and will fit you in on short notice
if he can. He works mainly on Japanese and other imports
but handles most makes and models. He's expert in his
knowledge, fun to talk to, will even chat (if you insist)
while he's scooting around on his roller-board under your
car. Prices are very reasonable ($45 to install a new
muffler I recently brought him). He's been my regular
mechanic for more than two decades. Affable, politically
liberal, a fast worker, honest and very competent. His shop
has computers for reading codes and diagnostics on parts,
etc., but it definitely hails from the era of the
personalized, small-time, small-volume shop, where
customers don't pay overhead for fancy equipment that isn't
essential. No high-pressure methods, no attempts to sell
you more than you need. He's an excellent trouble-shooter.
I recommend him very highly. Shop located a few blocks west
of main business district in Charlotte. J.Vaughan,

When other car shops around told me that they didn't have time to look at my power window issue, Steve made the time. I was in a rush, needing it for a meeting in High Point the next morning. I dropped my car off at 9:30 am and picked it up at 12:00 pm the same day. He even drove to me to work, rather then just get a taxi. He provided quick and efficient service, with a good personality to match.

Steve is a fantastic auto mechanic. We've been doing business with him for 15 or more years. We are used car drivers so having a great and honest mechanic is vital to keeping your car well maintained to run for years. Steve has taken care of five vehicles for us over the years including Toyotas, Honda, Ford and Mazda. We have referred a number of friends and family to him and originally found him by referral. He is affordable, available and efficient. We've called him from work, from vacation, from the side of the road, and from home. It's nice to have an extraordinary service provider on your side. Thanks Steve, Angela & Chad
