I only came to this mechanic a few times before I had to
move away - but I'd strongly recommend them for anyone in
Chapel Hill/Carrboro. Mechanics are excellent - complete
work quickly, and do the job well. I've been to many
mechanics where I left in tears, frustrated because they
could not give me a good explanation for why I needed
repairs (that cost several hundred dollars). Needless to
say, this never happened at auto logic - in fact, they went
so far as to warn me when repairs were likely going to come
up, so I could save some money for them! People are very
friendly, and by keeping the mechanics on salary, I don't
get a sense that they're trying to sell you stuff you don't
need. Oil changes will cost a little more than other
places, but you save money on EVERYTHING else - so I think
it's well worth it. They send you reminders of maintenence
that you need on your car, which is nice when you're busy
and tend to lose track of that stuff. What a great shop. I
can't say enough.

I took my Volvo to auto logic for about 7 years. It is IMO the best shop in the
triangle. I wish there was as good a shop in New york city. They are extremely
competent, careful, and explain the situation well. FAR superior to the nearby
dealer.

Auto Logic has worked on our cars for almost 20 years. We've never had a
serious disagreement. They are honest and competent -- what else can you
ask for. Sometimes something I think is seriopus they find is minor, and
sometimes it's the other way around. But they always can and do explain
what was wrong and what is needed. And stand behind the work. They also
have led the way locally in being environmentally responsible with liquids, old
parts and other potentially toxic materials. They are the best.

After my 1999 Subaru Forrester L broke down on the
interstate and was towed to Auto Logic, they quickly
diagnosed the problem, researched the available parts, and
gave me a reasonable quote to replace the engire. More
importantly they gave me an honest opinion rather than
talking me into anything and charged me nothing after
keeping it for a week when I decided to sell the car to a
salvage yard instead. I would definitely recommend them and
plan on returning when my new car needs service.

I trust this shop, and I don't mind paying a little more for
a job I know will be done correctly. They recommend a
"maintenance check" every 15k miles, instead of having a
packaged services at specific intervals (60k, 75k, etc.).
That way, you are only getting what you need done. The
downside of this system is that there's a chance you won't
get your car back the same day if something major-ish does
need to be fixed. This has happened to me 2 out of 3 times
on "maintenance check" day. It's a little frustrating and
does make me wonder if they are a little too busy...
