They are very good at listening to how important the car is to you (junker vs. pride and joy), and giving you the options for fixing it. They're also really good at getting ahold of you to discuss a repair before they do it. If you don't need something done, they don't do it and don't charge you anything.

I have known most of the mechanics at Park Sefvice for decades, and I trust them enough to just drop off the car, say "fix it, but call me if it's over $500," and not worry. They treat every car as if it belongs to their mother. Nick, owner since the 60's, recently sold the shop to Ned. We all sighed with relief, since that keeps the station pretty much the way it's always been -- locally owned. No, I'm not related to any of them at all, just grateful for all the times they've helped me out.

This is a terrific car repair shop. We have a Dodge minivan and a Nissan Sentra, and they do great work on both. Never more than the estimate, always done on time, and when I explain the limits of my love for the car, they tell me what needs to be done and where I can save some money.

I have been going to this garage ever since I got my first car. Some 24 years ago. I have never been unhappy with the service, quality, or the work. Besides the guys all have a great sense of humor and they treat you like they want you to come back again. It is right on a bus route and that helps too. But if need be the guys will give you a ride, within reason, especially if it is really cold out.

Haven't had any work done yet, but I will next week based on these comments... With some digging, I found their... Address: 2277 Como Ave, St Paul 55108 Ph: 651-644-4775

I used to live in this neighborhood. I started going to this
shop because everyone else in the neighborhood did (as you
can see from the other comments). I second everything said
so far.
My favorite story about them was when a friend from out of
town got a flat tire while visiting me. She had a doughnut
spare, but that would have only gotten her 1/3 of the way
home. We didn't think twice about what to do. This shop
fixed it while we went to an event. They didn't overcharge
her, which they easily could have done, since she told them
the whole situation about being from out of town and
essentially being stuck without the tire. They also gave her
good advice about replacing 2 of her tires.

Three generations of my family have been taking our cars
here for over 50 years and we've always gotten great
service. They know many of us are fine driving old beaters
and don't suggest unnecessary repairs for a car with 200,000
miles. I've never had them come in over their estimated
cost, and they usually beat their estimated completion time.
It's also worth mentioning that they have literally saved me
thousands of dollars by checking out used cars and finding
problems that the car dealerships had tried to hide. I
won't buy a car without having Park Service check it out,
and have walked out of dealerships which won't let me take a
car on a test drive over to the shop.
This shop seems to thrive on being a part of the
neighborhood, and that results in great customer service.
One example sticks out in my mind: on 9/11/01, many gas
stations around the Twin Cities jacked up their prices (and
were later investigated for price gouging). Ned kept his
prices fixed and told a family member who stopped there that
he wouldn't profit from a tragedy.

We just took our 1998 Jeep Wrangler to Park Service on the
basis of the recommendations on these boards. We had a
really bad transmission fluid leak and were worried that a
costly tranny repair was in our future. Not so. It was
just a problem with a hose for cooling the transmission
fluid. Another shop could have easily rung up lots of
extraneous charges and we wouldn't have been the wiser.
The service was ridiculously quick - dropped off at 8:30
one night, got the call that it was done at 10:30 the next
morning. My one quibble - they never gave us an estimate
before they fixed the car. (Although this may be simply
due to the fact that the cost was less than $150.) Next
time, I'll simply ask for a quote before they start any
really heavy-duty work.
