The guys at Northern started out as a VW specilaty repair shop, and branched out into general repair. In the summer they're principly an a/c shop, but they still squeeze in general repair. They've had a few changes in personnel over the years, but they keep hiring winners. Why do I like these guys? (1) You gotta love a mechanic who drives a Datsun 510 with 190,000 miles on the original clutch. (2) They replaced the rear brake line on my '85 Ranger while I waited- no appointment, either. (3) The lead mechanic advised me to buy a Saturn even though he said it meant they wouldn't get any of my business for at least 5 years (4) They kept my old diesel Rabbit going forever.

I have been taking my '03 Honda Civic Coupe to Northern ever since I bought it and have had no problems with Mark & crew whatsoever. Very honest and competent and I would not go to any other mechanic. I wish I knew about them when I had my '94 Jetta....though, my only complaint is that the shop is not open on Saturdays. Go to them, trust me, you won't be disappointed.

They guys at Northern Repair we very courteous, knowledgeable and trustworthy. They fixed my car well, and checked with me before any repairs were made. I will absolutely return to this shop and send friends there too. I am very picky about who works on my Volkswagen, and they have won me over.

I was supposed to drop my car off at 830am on Saturday, I arrived at 9am. They took my car anyway and told me they were closing at 12 noon so I should call before then for status and pick up. At 11am They left me a message saying the car was done, they were going to leave early so they locked the keys in the car, parked it out front and there was no charge on the repair! Have you ever heard of people being this nice! This is like something out of the 1950's! Any other place or dealer would have locked my car up in their shop all weekend. These guys are the best!

I drive miles to have my cars worked on by Jon and Mark and their crew and have done so for almost 30 years that they have been at this location. You have to love a shop owner that will take a guy's old Beetle and build a prototype electric car from it. This shop has proven itself to me and my family many times over for their skill and honesty. They exhibit a well deserved pride in their reputation and I have seen them go well beyond the norms to help struggling customers keep their cars running. On the other hand, these guys do not harbor fools--don't tell them how to fix your car and don't ask them to install your parts or you just may be invited to leave. Special perks from doing business here include: *fresh jokes, philosophy and social comentary from Mark the service manager *the open friendliness of Kamille, Jon's wife who may be sitting behind the service desk *Jon himself who will be found ordering all around including you and yet he continues to be engaging and interested *a coffee and bagel shop a block away if you have to hang around *curbside seats for the annual Woodward Ave Dream Cruise of classic cars and rods

I trust these guys more than I trust my mother! They are courteous, honest and really skilled. Mark always provides a thorough and clear explanation of the problem and he makes it clear when it's not necessary to spend money on a repair. Their prices are reasonable and they work fast. What more could you wa

I've taken my cars (foreign and domestic) to various shops and dealers including Northern over the past 15 years. my fiancee and I have older cars now (97VW, 98Ford) and they've needed more repairs in the past year. Though we live relatively close to Northern, our service from the guys during the past year and a half has been the best we've ever had. The guys at Northern are very honest with us and have even told us on occasion that the car DOESN'T need a tune-up and that we should save our money and bring it back in six months. Last month my VW needed a lot of work and I didn't have much time to get it fixed. They were accomodating and worked my repairs into their schedule. I mentioned several things that were wrong and they gave me a pre-inspection estimate. After the inspection, they told me that the repairs would be much less and came back with an estimate almost 40% lower than what i requested to be serviced. Finally, only two weeks after getting out of their shop for mechanical repairs, my brake lights stopped working (gotta love VW electrical). Not a safe situation navigating Detroit rush hour traffic 5 days a week. All the bulbs were new and the fuses were good. If it wasn't a switch, I new this was going to be costly. So I called Mark at Norther and told him the situation. He pretty much knew it was the switch and in two hours he got the part, called me, and installed a price way too low to mention here. Got me back up and driving safely in only a couple of hours. Thanks again, Mark. Just wanted to pass along the recommendation. This is one of those few businesses left that really does care for the customer first. You guys have my business as long as I'm driving.
