The owner, Dan Wentworth, is a GEM. He has never failed me, and -- to the best of my knowledge -- has not screwed up any repair on the 5 or 6 different vehicles I've brought in over the years; with the exception of 'consumables' like brake pads, I've never had to re-fix anything he's fixed. Honest to a fault: he has steered me to other shops that could do specific repairs cheaper than he could. Always willing to explain things in laymen's terms. If a repair isn't worth doing, he will tell you so (and he is not a car dealer, so he's not looking for a sale), and if a repair is expensive, he will explain WHY it's expensive, WHY it's required and if any alternatives are available (and if so, why he recommends the repair). A bit of a pain to get to (he's on a side road off a side road off a side road), but well worth every mile. For the last question above, there is no public transportation in the area, but he's gone above and beyond in making sure I never get stuck. He even explains why his headlight alignment chart is ten feet up on the wall... for all those highbeams that never get dimmed.

Dan is scrupulously honest and fair and has very competitive labor rates. We've taken our family vehicles to him for the past ten years and have never had any reason to complain. If it is a job he's not comfortable with or that he thinks someone else can do better or cheaper he'll refer you but it is a rare situation that D&L can't handle. They sometimes even tackle work that is usually the province of specialty shops like transmission rebuilds. The location is a bit out of the way, there is no mass transit and they do not provide loaners but they are generally very good helping with transportation if need be. This is not an affluent area and a significant share of D&L's business is keeping older cars and trucks running but they are also completely competent in dealing with recent production vehicles both domestic and foreign. Mechanics of this standard are rare.
