He remembers work he did for me four vehicles ago. Never purchased a car without his advice Upfront and honest. Great husband and wife team.

On vacation, I had a caliper dragging. This guy never saw me before. Told him what I needed, he ordered the part, said come back in an hour and we were done in 20 min. Charged me for 20 min work. Husband and wife team. Great experience. My kind of business man.

It's like rubbing salt in the wound to read the note made by a non-local person who had a caliper problem and had no trouble at all with this mechanic, (who is also a Selectman for that town). But I see this was written by a man who told the owner/mechanic what the problem was. (My car was there for a week). The one positive was the the mechanic diagnosed the problem. But then, when I picked up the car, there were no brakes. He had not put fluid in. I told him I continued to experience the low brake action, (he had replaced the one front caliper, and pads on R and L front), a clunking in the wheel/brake area with firm braking, and pulling to the right with firm braking. He said the brake rotors are in good shape, and other front end parts in good order as well. Not wanting to sully him, I suggested that maybe the remanufactured caliper that was installed on the right front brake, and the brake pads which were installed, were functioning not as they should, although he then told me that he did not use remanufactured parts. Also, the estimate I was given did not include the pads, so the bill was heftier than anticipated, and the cost for the caliper itself did not check out when I checked with several parts distributors. I asked him if there was a mistake and got one of those long-winded explanations that makes your neck hair stand on end. I sent a letter to him stating my concerns. It was a pleasant letter asking if he would call me to schedule a recheck. Six months later and I have not heard from him. As the car did, in fact, respond to the application of the brake pedal, I have driven it, for I should trust this fellow, right? I mean, he wouldn't let me drive an unsafe car would he? But now there is a sound and feeling to that right front side - six months later - that mimics the original problem. There's nothing I can do to get him to make this right. I mean, he's one of the people who run the town.

My name is Mary Lou French, my husband, Joe, and I own Joe French's Quality Car Care. I am writing in response to reviewer #64337. I am sorry you had a bad car experience, but it wasn't at our shop. I am pretty sure you had your car repaired at Joe's brother, Johns, shop in Camden, Coastal Automotive Repair. John is a selectman in Camden, where he lives and has his shop. We live in Rockport, our shop is in Rockland, and Joe has never been on any town committees. We work very hard to make our customers happy and do our job well. You need to move your review to the correct shop.
