If you have an air-cooled engine Ray is your guy

I found Autometrics through Cartalk when my daughter took
our aging 1992 Honda from Delaware to Bowdoin College. They
responded well to long distance repair discussions and
always called me with the estimate ready to discuss the
details. They helped through the repair of an accident and
called to insist new tires were needed before making the
500 mile trip home. I recommend them for their honesty,
integrity and the care given to the Honda that retired with
184,000 miles on it.

Ray Fortin is an absolute wizard when it comes to Volkswagens. He completely rebuilt the engine on my Bug, and he has worked on my other cars for over 10 years. He is completely honest, and won't recommend work that is not needed. He will always correct any mistakes or omissions he might have made, but usually gets it right on the first time.

I've been pleased with Autometrics. I find them very easy to
deal with and, so far, completely competent. They aren't
cheap...but good mechanics aren't, and I think they are
worth what they charge. I don't know how they would respond
if they screwed something up, but my strong impression is
that they would accept responsibility.
About the only drawback I've found is their crowded lot
makes it sometimes difficult to find a place to park my car
when I go there.

The best foreign auto place in the greater Bath-Brunswick
area. Great at finding used parts.

Been going to them since I moved to this area three years ago. My car has
183k and they are helping me get as many miles out of it as possible without
dumping undue amounts of money on it.
I feel like they recommend stuff when it's absolutely necessary, but otherwise
tell you "you can put this off for another xxx miles, but you really should do it
before winter."
Recently they did a brake job and about two weeks later I started hearing a
scraping noise. I took it back in and they found a spring that should have
been attached to the brakes had come loose and was scraping other parts in
the brake area and had caused damage. They took COMPLETE responsiblity
for the problem, said it was probably something they had gotten wrong in the
initial job, and didn't even try to charge me a cent. I don't know what the new
repair cost, but I suspect it cost more than the original brake job.
Everyone makes mistakes, it is just inevitable, but the sign of a company with
excellent customer service is what they do AFTER the mistake. If a company
owns up to it's mistakes instead of running from them, they are definite
keepers!
I am a gal who knows absolutely NOTHING about cars. They could have every
easily told me that the spring was something totally unrelated to the brakes
and put the repair on me to pay, but they didn't even try to.
I am now 100% sold on them.
