I first ran across Desmond's Autoservice when Desmond was "between garage situations", ie, he was leaving one partnership and almost into his own place. My wife and I recently found out we were having twins and had to get rid of her '84 Fiero. We saw a nice-looking (that's where the "nice" part ends!) 1971 VW Superbeetle and bought it. About a month later, we discovered Desmond and his ability to rebuild our VW engine. His quote was for HALF the price that everyone else wanted. He rebuilt our engine in record time, charged us what he quoted----and did it all in the basement of his home because he was without a working garage. Since that first experience, we've never gone anyplace else. A few winters ago, I did it again--somehow managed to throw a rod in my 1988 Corolla. 70k miles later, it still runs great, thanks to the guys at Desmonds, who replaced my engine, rather than making me buy a new car....They are the consummate professionals that every car owner dreams of, when having to blindly face the pain of car repairs....A true class-act, and probably the very best VW Mechanics on the planet, no lie!!!----Bob Baker, Forest Hill, MD

The shop is manned by delightful handsome old Irishmen. Once I stopped by because my hatchback latch wouldn't latch. I had a car full of kids. They fixed it on the spot, cheerfully, and didn't charge me. Of course I'll go back with that kind of customer care! Lucky for us Toyota and Volkswagen owners these are their specialties. There are no calendars of naked women (at least where the customers are) and they never make me feel stupid. Top votes for Desmonds!

Ok. They know more about VW than any VW dealers in the Baltimore Metro area. They actually has a better inventory of Parts for VWs than the dealers. I have bought numerous VW parts from these guys at prices 1/2 of what the dealer would charge. not that VW parts are expensive to begin with. They will have "Special order" part in inventory. I wouldn't take a VW anywhere else.

I was not at all surprised to see Desmond's listed on this site with such positive marks, and I'm delighted to add one more. A friend recommended the place to me when I bought a VW with 90K miles on it and it was a relief to be able to take it somewhere where I was always certain to get fair prices and excellent service. When I left the Baltimore area I missed Desmond, Mary and the mechanics, more than everyone I knew in highschool.

Desmond's has been working on our cars since about 1985, and we have always been happy with their service. We will only buy cars that they work on (Toyota/Lexus and VWs), and the only time we let someone else touch our cars is when we have to go to the dealer for warranty service.

Desmond's has a few experienced mechanics. Is up front man Doug is a great guy. He's honest, polite and always willing to go into whatever detail I require. They have also helped me to obtain parts when I want to do the work myself.
