Honest, Competent and Fair!

I was initially chasing down a squeaking noise coming from under my car so I had a u-joint replaced at a different place in town. They charged me twice what the part was worth and the squeak was still there. After losing faith in them, I took my car to the dealership in town who told me I needed a new transfer case. Their quote was very high so I got a recommendation from a friend and took my car to Skip's to replace transfer case. I told my story to the guy that usually answers the phone. He quoted me a couple hundred dollars less than the dealership and talked up the warranty for the part so I figured it was worth it. After about a week and ordering the wrong part, they finally "finished" the job. They told me they drove all the way to some-local-road and back and didn't hear any squeak. The second I drive off the lot, the squeak is back. It has stayed even after almost $2000 in repairs. Because they seemed nice enough, I brought my car back to look into it. They claimed I never told them that fixing a squeak was my motive. This should have been my first red flag, because I know I did (communication is a HUGE issue which I will get to later). I go in, personally drive around with one of the guys, and tell him everything I know about the problem hoping that he cares enough to use that information to fix it. Unfortunately the sound went away when he rode around with me and they claimed to have never heard it when they test drove my car. They check out my belts, joints, and whatever else and tell me everything looks "fine" except for some loose bolts on the part that THEY HAD JUST INSTALLED THEMSELVES. Glad you caught that...Keep up the good work guys. The squeaking continues. At this point I have been searching all over the internet for answers to my problem. Apparently this is a common thing with my make and model so I stupidly take it back to Skip's one more time. I figure this time I will just tell them what I want done (u-joint replacement, drive shaft replacement if necessary, and a transmission fluid flush [just because I need it]) and I will finally be rid of my problem. I left my car on their lot on Wednesday. They call me Thursday saying things look "fine." I say replace the joints anyway. Radio silence until I call them a full week after I dropped it off (ok, Easter Sunday and a day or two to compensate for drop off time and patience, STILL 4 whole days to do a couple hours worth of labor). I have been nothing but patient with them. When I finally pick up my car on Friday they say that they DIDN'T HAVE TIME to flush my transmission. My car sat in their lot for a week and a day and they DIDN'T HAVE TIME. Unbelievable. If they honestly didn't have time to work on my car I wish they would have just told me instead of wasting my time. To top it off, I asked what the brand names for the parts they used were and he conveniently couldn't tell me. The u-joint alone was double what most online searches come up with and I know they aren't putting the highest quality parts in my car. Sketchy. If you've read this far, then thank you, because you care a lot more than they did about me or my car. If not just for their sluggish service, I wouldn't recommend them because of their communication issues. One of my biggest complaints about this place is that nobody there talks to anybody else in the shop. I witnessed the guy at the counter write down what my car needed and the guy I talked to a couple days later thought I had a completely different problem. Why are 7 different mechanics working on my car? Does it really take that many people to replace a u-joint? I watched a six-year-old kid do it on Youtube! I'm done wasting my time and money at a place that doesn't tighten bolts or pass on important information to their mechanics. I might sound like a picky customer in this review, but I'm just fed up. Nobody has inspired me to do my own mechanic work more. Don't waste your time here. By the time they even start, you could have looked it up yourself, bought the parts, waited for shipping, finished the job, and enjoyed a beer.
