Richard is the best mechanic I've ever had. It only took one conversation and repair job with him to realize he was going to do an honest job for an honest rate. He always will take time to talk and tell you what your check engine light means. One day when my alternator died, I called on Richard but he had gone on vacation. Out of respect and concern for his clients he left the name and number of a fellow mechanic who fit me into his schedule with in days.

I met Rich, the owner/operator of Green River Auto when he was working for Doug Richmond in Guilford, VT. He often worked on my car so I continued with him when he opened his own shop in Greenfield, MA. He is a crack mechanic and a spectacularly decent human being. He indulges me with POM (peace of mind) mini-inspections as I commute back and forth to Tiverton, RI. It took forty years to find this scrupulously honest, altogether competent man; I will be lost when I complete the move to Rhode Island!!! Rate him at the top.

Rich Andrew used to work with Doug Richmond in Guilford, Vt (a really excellent repair shop, also). He moved to Greenfield which is more convenient for me so I moved with him. He is a subaru expert, knows how to keep them running well without spending hordes of money. He is honest and friendly, very thoughtful and smart. I trust him completely.

The reason I did not list an hourly rate for services is that the shop gave us a package deal related to a huge service they provided: finding and buying and then fixing up the perfect used vehicle for us!! Doug does an absolutely amazing job of listening to people to find out what they really want, and then locating it. In our case, it was a special type of SUV. He made sure he understood the special needs we have for it, since we haul horses and hay for instance. After he found the absolutely PERFECT vehicle, then he went and got it and the shop set to making it perfectly road-worthy and totally beautiful! We are over the moon about the end result. We had looked enough at vehicles on Edmunds' and other sites to know the Blue Book value of what we wanted, and I know enough about vehicles to know what sorts of things to expect in one old enough we could afford it. What they delivered looks like it came off the show room floor, and drives like it too! PLUS everyone in the shop was always respectful and courteous, got the work done when they were incredibly busy, and came in at the price we'd agreed on. If you need work done, or if you need a whole new used car, you have just GOT to go talk to Doug and Rich. Once you do, you will realize you've found pure gold!

My previous review, which was glowing, somehow only shows 4.5 stars. It should show 5 stars but I can't seem to fix it, and I don't know why it put 4.5. So disregard the missing half a star. This place is 5-star all the way! (My review is the one that mentions Doug finding a used vehicle for us that is absolutely wonderful!) Also, I listed us as "biased customers" because after the service we got there, we *are* biased. I dare anyone to use them and remain unbiased somehow! :-) (I listed NA on the questions in this review because I answered them in the first one.)
