I have been taking my cars to Jim for about 20 years. I originally signed up for an extension course that he taught years ago, hoping to do some minor repairs myself. What I really learned is that Ipswich had a very nice, very honest and very competent general auto mechanic. I've been a regular customer ever since. He never overcharges and the work is always excellent. I like to run cars until they die, the problem is that they start to rust out before they die. Jim doesn't do body work, but the engines he cares for so well go on and on. My current second car is a 1988 Chevrolet Celebrity wagon. Most reviews over the years suggested that I had made a big mistake buying that car. The car is now 11 years old with 144,000 miles, it has some rust, but it runs like a brand new car. Enough said.

I was still grieving my former mechanic, Peter Bulkley's, move to Maine when one my old truck had another of her periodic bouts of temperament. A friend who has long relied on the Martel's for work sent me their way and I'm indebted for that guidance. Jim Martel has performed a number of repairs on two of my trucks and bailed me out of a couple of real jams that could have cost a lot both for service and for my own lost wages. I liked him from the get-go when, unlike my wife, he surveyed my old rig without visibly wincing. My appreciation grew when he fixed a cranky carburator using parts he had kicking around the shop which he gave me free of charge. My gratitude for his sound advice, his understanding of a limited budget, and his hustle to get the truck back out on the road has grown to admiration bordering on hero worship since he's made a couple of house calls (for which, again, I was scarcely charged) when Ol' Ermatrude couldn't even get out the driveway. Jim Martel, his sons, and other employees are terrific tradesmen. They're warm, communicative, thoughtful, honest and competent. They spell out options if any exist and they

I have been bring my car to Martels Auto for 7-8 years. I read the other comments preceeding mine and I agree wholeheartedly. Jim Martel is competent, his charges are very reasonable and you can trust him.

Martel's has been fabulous working with us. We have an older car and they have just fixed the immediate problem as requested (unlike the dealer who wanted us to fix over 3k work of items). They have also worked hard to find the source of an intermittent problem without charging exhorbitant fees. They are fabulously helpful about scheduling, emergencies, explanations, etc. and even sweet to the kids I had to drag along with me. We won't go anywhere else.

I brought my Chevy Tahoe to them. I called up the local dealership first and because they were so busy the mechanic there actually recommended them to me. I lost all breaks one night, was in a panic, told them about my issues, told them I was from out of state. They could have just replaced every break line and the mater cylinder just to charge me more but they found out it was just a minor line and charged me for that. Their good guys over there, highly recommend them!
