I get the sense that repair costs are a little high-- but I can't tell if this is because of the mechanic or because of my car. Andy is scrupulously honest. Once I took my car in and asked him to make a repair that was diagnosed a few years earlier. I knew this repair would be around $1000. He called me back and said it wasn't the problem; it was this other thing. Total cost was less than $100. He also takes time to show you EXACTLY what was wrong on the old/damaged part and how he fixed it. Super-nice, super-competent, doesn't talk down to you but is willing to explain anything you ask. My only complaint is that you have to call him to find out if your car is done. I have heard that he doesn't advertise but gets his business strictly by word-of-mouth. His lot (such as it is) is always full when I bring my car in.

Maybe I'm a biased customer because I've been taking my car to Andy for 7 years. My brother recommended him, and my parents, my cousin, and some of our friends all take their cars to him. He's honest, thorough, and listens to what the customer wants, and I disagree with the person who thought he was expensive. I recently moved to the south shore, and shortly thereafter my car broke down in Quincy. I had it towed to a garage recommended by the AAA driver; this mechanic told me I needed a water pump, a timing belt, and a couple of other things that would come to about $500. This is close to the book value of my car, so I called Andy for his advice, which he offered freely. He thought the diagnosis was reasonable but the price was high; he looked up the prices of the parts for my model, gave me a much lower estimate and helped arrange for someone to tow the car from Quincy for less than the difference, after discussing whether it was worth keeping the car. As it turned out, it was just a radiator hose that needed to be replaced, and that's all he did.

Andy Nyman is a great mechanic, in my judgement. He worked on a variety of ars for me...3rd Gen RX-7, old Honda Prelude and Infiniti G-20. He kept them all running smoothly. In one case, he actually rewired the entire electrical harness of my '85 Prelude to keep the car on the road. He always seemed fair in his pricing and very skilled at his work. If he was wrong in diagnosis, he did not charge for the work. If you live in the Boston area, I'd contact him for work on almost any type of vehicle. After taking my RX-7 to a dealer 5 time to have the windshield washer repaired, I'd had enough of overpaying for incompetence. Andy was a lucky find.

I started going to Andy on the reccommendation of a friend. I needed to fix some repairs done by another garage. After being treated quite rudely by the previous place, Andy was a refreshing and welcome change. I have a great deal of confidence in both his work and in his honesty.

Andy is scrupulously honest and extremely competent. Work is always completed on time. I cannot recommend Andy highly enough and would not even consider having work done anywhere else.

I went to Andy's shop based on the really positive reviews I found here. My check engine light seemingly randomly came on one day and I was hoping that I didn't need too expensive a repair, as the car seemed to be running with no problems. Andy was able to fit me in last minute and was totally awesome. He called me very promptly and said that the issue was something he'd seen very often with my make of car and all I should do was use higher octane fuel. He didn't charge me anything because it took just a minute of hooking up the computer to read the code. Very reasonable guy and I think I've found my go-to mechanic!

We were hesitant to take our car to a mechanic doing as many repairs ourselves as we could with no knowledge of car mechanics or tools. But when our car was needing a whole bottle of coolant every 2 days we had no choice. We chose Moraine based on these reviews and could not be happier. We dropped the car off 3 days before Christmas and got it back by 4 pm that day. Andy had saved everything he had removed from the car to show me what was damaged. As a woman I prepare to feel taken advantage of or talked down to by mechanics, but Andy explained everything clearly and answered all of my questions. There was no charge for him to look at the car and I felt the price was more than fair for the work he did. We were very impressed and the coolant problem is fixed and we have a working heater in the car at last! We would recommend Andy to anyone who needs a mechanic and is tired of being ripped off. He gave excellent service, was honest, reasonably priced, fast and our car runs great!

The engine started making a strange noise and it got louder so we took it to Andy. He fixed our car in December and we were very happy with it. It was the AC compressor and we had 3 options of how to fix it. It wasn't an easy choice as the cheapest option would make the AC no longer work, but it is an old car so hard to spend money on luxuries when the car itself may not last. Anyway, Andy suggested that if it were his car he would do the cheapest option for now. You really feel like he just tells it as it is. He talks to you intelligently explaining everything and answering all of your questions. He kept the compressor so we could see what he was talking about and only fixed what was broken. No surprise extras. The total was $60. less than he had quoted. He also fixes it super fast and will do everything he can to make sure you get your car back the same day. Needless to say we are very impressed with Andy and will definitely take our car back here again. Highly recommend this mechanic, especially if you live in Belmont!
