I've mostly taken older vehicles to this shop and found them to be competent, reliable and honest. When a dealer told my daughter a year ago that her flooded 1995 Carolla was a total, these guys got it back up and running like a top for under 300 bucks. I've recommended them to friends who have all had good experiences.

I took my car in because it stalls; it was a simple problem, so it was fixed for free. I'll definitely be going back!

I was travelling cross country when I developed a loud growl and other bad noises in my 95 Jetta. I thought I was screwed, not knowing a local mechanic, I was at the mercy of the 'Big Easy'. I checked the Car Talk website, found Cacamo's Auto, called him, he told me to bring it by, where he diagnosed the problem in minutes. I told him I needed to be on the road to California. In his New Orleans drawl, he said he would do what he could. He directed us to Betsy's pancake house, which we walked to a few blocks away. After a big meal, we caught the streecar to the French Quarter. Al Cacamo called about noon, said we were ready to go. We walked back from the Quarter, paid, and were on our way to CA, where we arrived with no further problems. He fixed the problem and was fun. If I lived in NOLA, I would go back to him. Also, try Betsy's pancake house!

These guys are tremendous. They completed a repair on my 2001 Pontiac that the dealer quoted at $2,000 for less than $300.00!

A few months back I brought in a Jeep GC that was giving me power steering problems (leaking). They didn't catch the leak the first time, but corrected when I returned it. Work was a little pricey, but so are Mopar parts. Good, honest guys from what I can tell.

Called the shop after finding it on this site. Asked for a quote to replace front & rear brakes on my truck (I tend to shop around). The price was cheaper than what the national shops were charging. After they looked at the brakes they told me that only the rear brakes needed replacing, saving me even more money. Honest, clear communication, and courteous, wow.

I have been a Cacamo's customer since I moved to New Orleans in 1988. I have recommended them to all of my friends who need a mechanic. One friend had an old car that needed repairs that had been quoted at 2000+ dollars. I told him to check the cost with Cacamo's. Alan (Cacamo) looked at the car and gave him a quote that was lower than others he had been given, but also told him he really shouldn't put money into the car--even buying a used one for that amount was likely to be a better deal. And as he had done for me when I bought a used car, he said he would be happy to look over any used car my friend was considering buying to let him know if there were any obvious problems. Also, because he knew I was always on a tight budget, when I took my car in for any work, he would warn me if he saw anything developing into a problem, give me an idea of what it was going to cost and about how much time I had before fixing it was likely to become unavoidable so I could plan for the expense, and if it was something that might cause damage if not fixed, get it done before it actually broke. And these are only some of the good stories I have about Alan and his business.

I had a great experience with this shop. As a young female I always appreciate being talked to as an adult. The owner, Alan, took the time to explain what the problem was (a speed sensor as I suspected) and how it was fixed. I would definitely visit this shop again. I highly recommend it.
