I've been taking my car(s) to Vern for over a decade. As mentioned earlier, altho he & his team of "ace mechanics" (aka "The A Team": Ahmad, Andy & a veteran from a number of years ago) specialize in Volvos (and "Beemers" and Mercedes), they "condescended " to keep my '82 Mazda 626 going til 1995. They're super great! What mechanic do you know makes "house calls"?! For example...a couple of weeks ago, my car wouldn't start after work (it was a Saturday nite, naturally). I called Vern's cell phone & left an SOS message. He not only returned the call the next day (Sunday), but that afternoon he drove to downtown Kansas City where the car'd been left overnight. Not only that, he'd brought A NEW BATTERY which he proceeded to install in my car right there in the parking lot! And I was never charged any thing extra for the "service call"!! One of the many things I like best about the way they run their shop is they really understand how disruptive it is to be without one's car. They'll usually offer a ride home (or to work or where ever) when you choose to leave your car for them to work on . They're "golden"!!

Great GUY ! All of his mechanics will talk to you and explain what needs to be fixed. At least three times in the last two years he has saved me from major expenses which would have been charged to me by the dealership. He also works on other foreign cars, but I think he considers all other cars to be below volvos, I agree!!!!!!!!!

I own two 240 Volvo's, an '88 and a '90. I had the dealership service my '90 for over a year for the check engine light and of course at great expense. They never fixed the problem. Vern was able to diagnosis and fix the problem for me in one visit. I live in another state but I am willing to make the forty-five minute drive to his shop because I know I will get the work done correctly and at a fair price. Highly recommend this shop.

The shop used to be honest, but then they rehired Mike and his girl friend, poor attitude keeps me from coming back, the shop is in terrible shape and is moving to a even worse location. I would never take my new car to them, and the girl in the front seems to be "not with it" and has little or no general automotive experience. Vern is a great guy, but he DOES NOT work on the cars unless they are from the 60's, 70's or 80's. The people he hires are the ones who are working on your car, don't waste a penny at this location.

Responses given in questionnaire pertain to Vern's Imports. They were honest, reliable, and well-versed in car repair. As a long-term customer, I was disappointed when Vern retired and sold to Carriage and Motor Works on SW Blvd. His best mechanics have not moved to the new location. Also, the friendly atmosphere at Vern's did not transfer to the new location, although the new owner is personable and I intend to give him a chance. I have run into conflicts while attempting to communicate with the office manager, who seemed to be less condescending when at Vern's, and I am not totally confident in the Volvo repair guy who broke a part on my car. I was told it would have broken anyway, and was required to pay for a replacement part--something Vern would not have done. Hourly rate at new location unknown.
