Because of Keiji's honest and reliable service, I prefer to buy Toyotas only. If he every quits, I'm screwed. He basically runs a one-man shop located on Central and Crawford Avenues in Evanston. On several occassions he made adjustments to my Toyota when I drove up or he referred me other places because they were cheaper. He's also a very personable and gregarious person. Expect to chat for a while. If you like Click and Clack, you'll like Keiji.

Keiji is an original. An old guy with a thick japanese accent who only works on Toyotas. The things I like best about him is he only fixes what needs fixing and he doesn't try to sell me a bunch of preventive maintenance stuff just cause the owner's manual says its time. For example, I took my car in because, at 120,000 miles, it was time (per the manual) to change the timing belt. Keiji took a look at it and said to come back in 10,000 miles.

I "discovered" Keiji on this site, so I guess it's too late to keep him to myself. I can only say thanks to previous reviewers and add my praise. I'de always used my dealer for service on my '94 Camry, but have moved and wanted to find someone closer to my new home and decided to try an independent shop. On my last visit to the dealer they told me that I needed a new power steering pump (about $400 for the part and at least that much again for labor) and that, at 120,000 miles, I needed to have my timing belt replaced ($359, including the other belts that they'd replace, too, as long as they were in there). Keiji said my power steering pump seemed okay -- he tightened up some loose hoses, and that the timing belt was still fine -- he'll look at it again in 10,000 miles and let me know if it needs replacement then. By the way, his price to replace it would have been something like $200, plus any other belts that needed replacement (a very different philosophy than the dealer -- he only fixes what needs fixing!). He did replace the brake pads and one rotor that I knew I needed, and did a good job at a fair price. Plus, he's a very cool guy!

If you have a Toyota and live in the northern part of Chicago or the northern 'burbs you have to take your car to Keiji. I found out about him through this web site when my '93 Camry broke down. We didn't have the money to fix it immediately, so Keiji graciously allowed us to keep it parked in his lot for 3 months while we saved up and didn't charge any kind of storage fee. The work was then completed very quickly and very well. We've been taking our car back to him ever since.

Keiji is now at: 8207 Christiana Ave., Skokie, IL. 60076 PH: 847-982-9264. I know this because it is the 4th location I have been taking my Cressida's for repairs. I had a 1983 with 200,00 miles on it when it lost its transmission. I now have a 1990 with 135,000 miles. Keiji takes care of it like it is his own. My wife had a 1985 Cressida he serviced until she was hit by a Van running a red light. It was totaled. She was not hurt. She bought another 1985 and he took care of it until another accident and totaled. She now has a 1987 Cressida he takes care of. We like Cressida's for their longevity and because of KEIJI.
