Three anecdotes: The first is about how she helps her customers do what is best for them, which is not always the best for her business. My car was getting old and needing repairs. Karen had finished working on the car and was talking to us about it. She told us, we needed to face reality: the car is going to need more and more repairs. She then said she'd be glad to do them, but we were at the window. That small window where you could get a new car or keep the old car and waste the money you could use for a new car on repairs. The second and third are about her concern for her customers: My former husband did most of our car maintenance and when he left I was at a loss. I really didn't know much about cars, but I fortunately had Karen for a mechanic. I knew she did a good job and I could trust her, but I also learned she cared about her customers. I thought my car was making a funny noise, so I brought it in to her. After explaining the noise to her, she told me she thought it was just one of those car noises that were there, but you didn't always notice. Still, she wanted to check it out. When I came to pick it up she confirmed the noise was OK and when I asked her for the bill she said there was none, she hadn't fixed anything, so she didn't charge anything. The last story: My 16 year old daughter had driven her father up to the airport in St. Louis, which is about 2 1/2 hours away. On the way back the brake light on the dashboard came on, although the care seemed to stop OK. She quickly got off the highway and called me. We were both terrified, she didn't know what was wrong and my little girl was hours away with a broken car. I didn't know what to do, so even though it was after 6:00 I called the garage in hopes of catching someone there. It turned out Karen answered the phone, but she was at home. I hated to bother her at home, but she had me tell her what the problem was, then she told me what to have my daughter check. I called Jody back and had her do what Karen said. Jody checked what Karen said and found the problem. I called Karen back and she told me how to have her fix it so she could get home safely. It worked, my daughter got home just fine and I took it in the next day to be fixed. How many people would have taken a call after business hours and how many mechanics would have figured out the problem over the phone and told us how to fix it(of course you guys would have, but I didn't have your phone number)? Karen it both a great mechanic and a great person!

I was new to the area when something went wrong with my car. One of my students recommended Karen to me. I could not be more pleased! Karen is very good and is very considerate of her customers. Most recently, I had gone in for new tires. In replacing them, one of her workers found the treads wearing improperly and as they were doing the alignment, found my ball joint (I think that is the part!) broken. She didn't have one in stock and basically refused to let me drive my car home for safety reasons. She gave me a loaner and sent me home. Once it was all said an done, the bill was twice what I expected for just the tires. She said that since she hadn't even expected to run into this problem I could write two checks the latter to be deposited after my payday! She has old fashioned values of treating customers with the utmost respect. Great business practice!

Karen takes time with her customers and has always been very nice. The work that was done on my vehicles was done correctly and in a timely manner. Female friends and acquaintances report very good service and relationships. Being a female in a male dominated position, would give her the ability to take advantage of female customers, but she doesn't do that.

The good folks at Gator have saved the day for us again and again. They help us to keep our old beaters running. They treat all their customers like neighbors.

I have been taking cars to Karen for 15 years. I am always pleased with the work, and the service, but mostly with the "extra mile" Karen seems to go with each customer.

Karen has fixed my cars for over 15 years. If she finds a problem other than the one I took my car in for or if the cost will be more than she estimated she always calls to let me know before she fixes the car so that I don't have any surprises when I pick it up. Karen spends the time necessary to find the problem and explain to me what is wrong with my car without making me fell like an idiot. Once she spent the time to drive my car to listen to strange noises that I had been hearing and didn't charge me when the noises turned out to a normal part of the car's aging. I've recommended Gator tire to all my friends and colleagues and will continue to do so in the future.

These are the guys I go to when at school in Carbondale. I'm a very mechanically competent person and built much of the engine in my car, but when I get stumped they are the ones I trust to take care of it. I've had a clutch put in, an electrical gremlin fixed, and over torqued locking lug nuts removed (Installed at Firestone in Lake Zuich, IL) each time they were fantastic quality of work. turn around was decent but you know they are doing a proper job so it's worth the extra day or so of wait.

I just have to concur with what everyone else says. She's thorough, honest, careful and caring. We've been going to Karen for over 10 years. She's always level headed, rational, and diplomatic. Her garage and mechanics are more than competent on new cars and can keep an old 1970's bomber running just as well.
