These guys are great. After several experiences with "dealers" in the area -- and always feeling shafted by the dealers -- these guys have been able to fix my vehicles (GMC, Ford, and Pontiac). Fair prices -- and no screw-ups. I've had all of my vehicles worked on multiple times. I highly recommend. They are close to campus -- so you can drop off your vehicle -- and go to work/school on campus -- while they work on your vehicle. I recommend them to all of my friends.

The guys in the shop are great. Not only are they knowledgeable, they are also very approachable and trustworthy. I'm always amazed they call me by my first name with so many customers coming in and out of there daily. They have always delt with me kindly and fairly and have gone the extra mile to solve any problems. It means a lot to have mechanics you can trust!

These guys aren't amazing or great. As a "service" company there is room for improvement. Maybe they're just human, but..... I took my '97 Cadillac Seville in with an obvious clunking noise in the left front. They found a bad bushing in the left front lower control arm and had to replace the lower control arm, as the part comes as an integrated unit. When I picked up the car, I asked if that had fixed the noise, and was told "I hope so". Within 2 blocks of driving I could tell that it wasn't fixed!!! When I calmed down and called back to tell them it was still making the same noise, I was told to bring it back in sometime and drive it with him to show him what the clunking noise is that I am talking about. Come on!!! It's not like my Cadillac is making so much noise that you can't hear it. A professional mechanic would have driven the car and known immediately that it wasn't fixed. He should have done more troubleshooting, informed me of the facts, and given me options. I would have understood that - some automotive problems can be difficult to pinpoint, but trying to cover it up by just giving the car back unfixed and telling me "I hope so" when asked about it, didn't go over well with me. I'm not saying that the bushing wasn't bad - I believe that it was, but there is another, more serious problem causing the OBVIOUS clunking noise. I will not be taking it back.

They are the best. They are extremely honest about when it's time to get something done and when you can get by for a little bit longer. I've never known anyone who is a "former customer."

A GREAT, HOMETOWN TYPE OF FRIENDLY, COMPETENT CAR REPAIR---- ---ALWAYS.

They have fixed my or my wife's car 3-4 times over the last 4 years. They have done the work well and the one time that the problem persisted after the repair, they re-did the work for free (a $150 dollar job). I have been very pleased with them. The only downside I see is that they are in demand so you might have to wait a few days to get your car in.

Very competent and reliable. Kept one car (a Ford/Mazda) running for 260,000 miles (when I got rid of it)

I have taken both my vehicles here, and each time they will break down the work needed, versus the work recommended, what can be pushed off and until when. They always ask before performing any work not agreed upon, or really any work in general. And have always come off as honest hardworking and dependable. Great bunch of guys to work with!

I've been going there for over 30 years [starting at the old place in downtown Iowa City-- now in 2015 they are moved to a bigger shop a quarter mile east of the Iowa City Wal-Mart on a back road, between Highway 1 and the IC airport = 436 Ruppert Road], and I will continue there for at least the next 30-plus years. They know how to work with you and explain things. I've never seen them advertise, since word of mouth from experienced customers keeps them plenty busy. Plan ahead, since the only challenge can be the repeat customers that are in line ahead of you jamming the lot and trying to get in the door. That must be why they are advertising to add on extra mechanics to supplement the regular guys who have been around 20 years or so. You might have to wait for an appointment unless your emergency can squeeze you in, but the wait is worth it.
