If you have an old car, and need a re-built starter or alternator to keep it going for very little money, Burger is your guy. All he does is alternator & starter re-builds, he does them himself at low cost and they STAY fixed. Your first impression when you go looking for his shop is "I must be in the wrong place!". David's shop is in a small shack behind his home, literally beneath the shade trees. When you go in the shop, your second impression will be "I'm in the right place, but do I really want him re-building my alternator?". You see, there are discarded alternator and starter parts all over the place, in piles. Fear not, David will treat you well. I once had him re-build a starter from a '77 Datsun truck after not being able to find a replacement anywhere for less than an arm and a leg. David had to track down rebuild parts from several suppliers in different states. It took him a few days to finish the job, but the rebuild cost me about $75.00 and outlasted the rest of the truck. He has also on another occasion diagnosed problems with an alternator that another shop put in, then wouldn't charge me for the diagnosis (the other shop, which originally said there was no problem, replaced the alternator for free after Burger's diagnosis).

Dave rebuilt my starter in my Passat TDI with a personal touch. He removed, rebuilt and installed it for $110 - a great deal. (Rebuilt Bosch starters for this diesel startat $180 plus shipping) It took a while to get done, several days, because he had to rescue his daughter in FL (car probs). I just left it with him over the weekend, and when he got back he finished the job. He also gave my family a bag of pecans from the tree in the yard - Dave is a real shade tree mechanic.

i had to have my alternator rebuilt-when i called the mechanic up the street for an estimate he told me $250.00. i took it to David after reading about him on this website. he did the work for $100.00 and even changed a few belts for me at no extra cost. he offered to pick up the car from my home if i didn't have a way to get it there and he had the work done in one afternoon. all the mechanics i've dealt with before treated me like an idiot (being a woman and all) but he was very fair and explained everything to me and treated me in the same manner as my husband. i will say it's not the safest neighborhood--i used to live there and had my car broken into twice in six months. and it doesn't help that he doesn't actually live there at the shop. you might want to ask him if he's had problems leaving cars there overnight. he's a great guy, very honest, he'll tell it to you straight and give you a great deal.

I am sorry to report that the mechanic passed away in January 2013. The woman who answered the phone at the shop recommended that I contact Nash Heavy Duty Truck Parts because they have a guy there who works in the back and does alternator repairs.
