The most enjoyable auto repair experience I have ever had! Straight shooter, very knowledgable with all Japanese makes and models. Has been working on automobiles since he was fourteen years old. Member of the local BBB with no blemishes on record. Highly recommend for all types of work.

Originally, we owned just one 1988 Accord, and we took it to the Jap Shop rather than our traditional mechanic because our traditional mechanic refused to do a repair job on it one time. Well, now thanks to the service Jeff provides we own another 1988 Accord, a 1990 Legend and a 91 Legend so we can take our car to Jeff. Jeff is an honest mechanic and the worst thing I could possiblysay about him is that sometimes we'll spend too long there because we are talking with him or one of his mechanics because they are so friendly. They are always super professional and never over-charge. In some cases he has gone out of his way to find used parts when we couldn't afford the necessary repairs any other way. Thanks to a snafu with our oold family mechanic, we have found a new and much better family mechanic!

Five years, 3 cars ( Toyota, Subaru, KIA ) no problems. Really explains problems well. Great teacher. Loves his work and it shows!

We always got our service done at Honda dealerships but when the local dealership gave me an inflated quote for a timing belt repair even though we had a "coupon", I decided to call this shop and without any prompting or knowledge of the competitor's price, I was quoted a little less than the deadlership "coupon" price without a coupon here! Then called two more times weeks apart for information on other repairs. Charles didn't know me at all but his knowledge and passion for the cars as well as his courteous manner is what convinced me to give up the dealership and head here. It's not just a job with these guys. They really love what they do. And besides, I was just bugging him for information on the phone and he was very couteous and polite each time. Most importantly, he gave me the same quote on phone anonimously and then again in person without hesitation every time. My old 1992 Honda Accord I bought used still needs several repairs and I'm going back here for them all even though it's three times the drive than to the dealership!

I brought my car to them one time and my car stopped working the day after I got it back. But they had it towed for free to the shop and had fixed the problem within three hours. Very nice guys and are very willing to fix any problems.

While visiting my mother-in-law, she noted a problem with her Sentra. I called the shop at about 10 AM and they squeezed us in that afternoon. Second, the shop seems to specialize predominantly in go- cart parts and sales. Despite this, they do continue to service cars, and I must say they are very professional. My mother-in-law was treated very well--her English is a second language--and the shop representative (who I believe was the owner) was very courteous, clear in his explanation of what was done, why it was done, and what to do if any problems arose after we left the garage. He had a remarkable tone that was not condescending, or otherwise problematic: just clear and direct. It was the most professional auto repair experience I have ever had in my 45 years on this planet. Prices are fair--not cheap, not expensive--and well worth it. I can't recommend this shop enough.

I was referred to this shop by the website. I had two vehicles serviced by Japanese Specialists (Toyota Camry and a Mitsu Outlander), and the service was excellent. What I liked most about them was the mechanic rated a part's condition on a 1-10 scale so I could make a judgment on whether to have the part serviced during the visit or the following visit.

David, the owner of Japanese Automotive Specialists, handled our unusual circumstance wonderfully. I live in Dayton, Ohio. My young adult daughter recently moved to Jacksonville, and the clutch failed on her '98 Subaru Forester with over 145,000 miles, and I had to help to pay for repairs so I wanted to be fully aware of what was going on. I found the reviews for Japanese Auto Specialists here on the Car Talk site and sent her there. David wound up giving her car a thorough check-up and explained all problems and potential problems to both me and my daughter in separate conversations. He was very responsive, very nice, and treated us like honored customers, not dumb women. It didn't seem to bother him one bit to be working with us both separately. He FAX'd me a his "check-up" paperwork so I could have a copy along with my daughter having one. The clutch repair and a few other odds and ends were done very quickly and my daughter is back on the road, pleased with the results. The cost of the work wasn't cheap, but it didn't seem outrageous either. I strongly recommend this "Mom and Pop Business" (to use David's words).

We live in South Florida and hours before my son was scheduled to be back in Jacksonville for college, he informed me that is was "making a funny noise." Long story short, the AC compressor bearing was going bad. I was afraid that he would never make it back to JAX and hated to send him, but he had to work at 8 AM the next morning and then attend classes to get ready for finals. So I jumped on this web site and found The Japanese Specialist, Inc. I spoke with Dave and filled him in. He was most helpful. Sent me an immediately email quote and because my son was on a tight work/school schedule and really needed his car, went ahead and ordered the parts in advance (at my behest) so that when my son brought the car in the job could start immediately. We had originally scheduled the job for Thursday, but Wednesday the compressor seized and my son was left stranded on the third floor of a parking garage. We were eventually able to get the car towed to the repair shop. Dave was kind enough to start the job a day ahead of schedule and it actually came in under the bid. Many parents of college students dread finding mechanics in emergency situations like these, but I feel I was treated fairly and I will definitely have any future work that needs to be done on his car done there. They really helped us out of a jam and did not gouge us.
