Replaced an air mass meter with a rebuilt one on my 91 turbo Volvo because he thought it would fix the problem I discribed (Too many fault codes to isolate a single cause). He told me to drive it for a couple of days to see if it solved the problem and if it didn't he would put the old one back on. I returned a week later to report the problem was fixed. It was then that I paid the bill.

Richard installed a timing belt improperly and had to come to my house 20 miles away to repair it. He did it willingly and at his total expense. After that all has been smooth. He knows his business on volvos. He knows what will fail and when it is necessary to fix. I believe with Richard being my mechanic I may stretch out the time I own my volvo.

everytime I bring the car in, they fix something extra and don't brag about it. They fixed a stuck windown, a stuck sunroof and put a washer on my antenna so I didn't beat the woman at the parking garage every morning. I'm a single mom with 2 driving kids and until I found these honest, comptent mechanics, I spent my whole paycheck on car repairs. I'll keep on driving volvos as long as they con- tinue to work in the Gainsville area. Thanks Richard!

I took my Volvo to Richard's for years and I cannot recommend them highly enough. The prices are good--they (Richard and his sons) do not assume your purse is limitless. They explain things well without being condescending. I am a middle-aged woman, bright enough but clueless about cars. They also fixed small things without a charge. The place is well-kept and organized, but everyone there has greasy hands--you're not paying for that guy in a white shirt who shakes your hand and sits at a desk that all the dealership's garge's seem to have. This is a local family business with a clearly established clientele. They learned my name fast and seemed to know everyone who came in the door. I was heart-broken when someone missed the red light, totaled my Volvo and I couldn't afford an new one. I don't miss the car, but I miss having a reliable repairman. They only work on Volvos and I got a Honda.

I had to be honest and list myself as a "biased customer." I can't think of a single problem, but it's possible I am blinded by love. I love these people because they have kept my ancient beater Volvo, for which I paid next to nothing: *alive and well *for negligible money *forever. Except for buying gas and tires, the last decade of automobile ownership has caused me no pain. Who can say that? Nobody can say that! The perfect metaphor for how awesome they are is my vehicle. If you judge from the condition of the parts I... "maintain," like the passenger compartment, say, the car looks like the sort of thing you might find in a squirrel's nest. If you open the hood (I never do, but sometimes they open it for me in order to show me something), all that you see is shining clean and perfect and busily functioning just as it's supposed to. Being a Richard's customer gets you peace and tranquility without the tedium of assuming the lotus position and om-ing for hours a day. The only problem in my life associated with Richard's Import Store is that I am trapped in Gainesville for the rest of my life because that's where Richard's Import Store is.

One day my Volvo started making a weird airy spitting/clicking noise. Some car friends took a long look and suggested it was a flap. Took the car to Richard. He was under my hood before I could get out of my car. He touched the engine, the noise stopped, and he said, "There's your problem, a broken spark plug." He proceeded to spend the next couple hours trying the remove the piece that fell into the cylinder. When I came to get the car, he charged me $50 to replace the 4 plugs, a door handle, and fix a malfunctioning tail light.

Richard Neuhaus is a very competent and honest Volvo specialist. He and his son RJ have always gone out of their way to make sure that the repairs on my 1990 740 GLE and my husband's 1992 960 are done right the first time and in a timely manner. Many times Richard has tried to fit me in when I have called for an appointment at the last minute. Both Richard and RJ take time to explain any repairs and to make recommendations. When my husband had an accident in his 940, Richard suggested that we use the body shop next door to his shop. When the car arrived there Richard took the time to look at it to see if it could be salvaged (the insurance company ended up totalling it). If you need a Volvo mechanic in the Gainesville, FL area, I highly recommend that you give Richard a call.

My wife and I (1994 Volvo 850 turbo and 2001 S40) can highly recommend this father-and-son team. They do excellent work, never fail to explain what they've done to non-techies (they're fond of drawing you whole diagrams on the back of the repair order), and charge reasonable prices. On occasion, they have waived all fees because they felt they hadn't sufficiently fixed a particular problem the first time. Richard and son RJ are very pleasant people, and the shop makes you feel like family.

Exemplary in every way, technically and interpersonally. No fancy, comfortable waiting room though. I've owned automobiles for the past 50 years and used to be able to do my own service before they became all electronic. Have had other good mechanics over the years but none better.
