Dave has been keeping our clunkers on the road for years. We can't afford really good cars, but he always seems to be able to revive them and does it honestly and affordably.

I've taken my cars to Dave for 20 years. He has a good crew
and is usually available to interprete the technical nuances
for the lay person. He keeps records on your car's repair
history for you. His shop handles all sorts of cars and
conditions, from the regular maintenance on my new car to
keeping my 10 year old functioning while I shopped. I
always appreciate the staff's helpful suggestions sorting
out a major problem.

I drive a on-demand 4 wheel drive vehicle, and use the 4 WD
LOW frequently. The vehicle is 10+ years old, with over 150K
miles. I started having problems turning in 4WD LOW and my
"usual" mechanic could not diagnose the problem. They
suggested I go to Tampa to a 4WD specialty shop. I gave Dave
Mays' shop a try - and they diagnosed and fixed the problem
at a decent price! They will now be my usual mechanic. They
did a similar miracle on my husband's Honda Air Conditioner
- after two mechanics could not fix it. FYI, I gave Dave
Mays a try because he is on the local public radio board.

I have the honor of being Dave's 1st customer (back in 1969)
when he did mechanic work on the side as he was then a grad
student in entomology. Since that time, I have made a
practice of only having my cars serviced by Dave Mays and
many of my friends (including my daughter) are on the band
wagon -- and quite happily so.

Dave and his crew went above and beyond the call of duty to
diagnose and fix a real sticky wicket of a problem. They
warrantee their work for 4000 miles or 6 months whichever
comes first. I have never met a more honest and competent
and intelligent and respectful mechanic in the 50 years
that I have been a car owner!

I took my car in for diagnostics and was told they would call me that day with an estimate. They did not call me, so before closing time I called them and was told that it would take them a few days to "track down the parts" (parts that I later found with no difficulty). They also hadn't informed me that they would be closed for the following 4 days, so my car was at Dave Mays for 6 days...all for a diagnosis and an estimate for three needed repairs. There was no apology for the 4 day delay, and I was charged $100 for the diagnosis.
I was very optimistic about this mechanic after reading the positive reviews here, but I will not be using their services in the future.
