i took my car to ray for 5 yrs while a grad student at yale. I am not a car
expert, but he seemed to always be honest and competent. I would like to
think that he helped keep my car running longer/better than it otherwise
might have. Ray has a strong /opinionated personality and does not always
come across as the friendliest guy, so you may either like him or hate him.
he always seemed to be VERY strict on picking up the car by about 4:30PM
so that he could leave by 5, which could be a problem if you don't have a
flexible job (just 1 example of Ray's distinctive style). Overall, I was pleased
with Ray and SKF, but you need to be able to live with Ray.

Ray does excellent work!

I found Ray via this site, and he fixed my problems perfectly
first-time. However, I have to say, I paid more for my fix
than seemed entirely fair. I came knowing what was wrong
(several brake issues, not minor) and having some idea of a
fair cost for a fix; Ray did exactly what I had thought
needed to be done (though he also checked a lot of other
stuff, which was great). The price was a fair bit higher
than I had expected for the same fix.
I find Ray to be gruff, but I did like how he explained
everything when I came in to pick the car up. I'm a woman; I
have no idea if this made any difference whatsoever to my
experience.
Overall: very good mechanic, and I appreciated his poking
around to make sure everything was in good condition. But
the price seemed high.

Ray was recommended by a good friend and I am very grateful
to my dear buddy for sending me to SKF. Any work he has
done is through, he calls when he has a question, and his
work is trustworthy.

I had a pre-purchase inspection of a car done here and these guys literally saved my chestnuts. Despite a clean Car Fax report they noticed some unusual rust and sand under the car. They then kept digging (and digging) until they found the trunk full of beach sand, corrosion and salt water. Obviously a "hurricane Sandy" type car. Needless to say I ran away from that deal. I can't thank these guys enough.
