I am new to Steamboat Springs and was looking for a local mechanic that my wife and I could trust. My car needed an oil change and tire rotation. I made the mistake of not asking the price in advance. These people charged me $110.23 for the oil change! (Specifically $14.13 for the filter, $51.90 for five quarts of synthetic oil and $41.20 for labor.) The Subaru dealer that used to change my oil charged $33.89, all inclusive. Rocko also charged $60.00 to rotate and my tires and balance the wheels. I did not ask him to balance the wheels. When I questioned that, Rocko claimed that the wheels need to be balanced every time they are removed from the car. I cannot find one expert who agrees with that.
Presumably, Rocko noticed the out of state license plate on my car and decided that he could stick it to me. I will find another mechanic for all maintenance. I suggest that everyone do the same.
