Dwane, the owner, used to manage a chain auto repair shop at the same location. He bought it out and is now independent, but still has ASE certified mechanics working at his shop. He has always been patient, fair, and given me a good price. I highly recommend their work.

I noticed a metal rattling sound coming from under my vehicle. I looked under there and saw I had a broken muffler hanger. Being from out of town I googled local muffler shops and found two, Black Canyon and Performance. I set my gps to go to Performance and was on my way there. I drove by Black Canyon and noticed that all of their bays were empty and there were no cars in the lot, so I decided to stop there, thinking it would be a faster experience. I went in and told the guy behind the counter that I had a broken muffler hanger and asked how much it would cost to fix it. They had me fill out paperwork and I noticed there was a $35 charge just to look at the vehicle. I was told that the $35 would be taken off the repair bill, when I got the work done. Although I thought the job would only cost $20 at the most, I agreed to the fee because I wanted the work done and was sure it would cost less than $35. The employee then took about an hour to get my vehicle into the shop to inspect my muffler, which was quite irritating, since the shop was empty and it was a friday. The employee then spent ten minutes looking at my vehicle while I was watching from outside. Then the employee told me that I did not have a broken muffler hanger and that I needed a new muffler and pipes. I then walked under my vehicle and pointed out the broken hanger, to which the employee said "I did not look there." We walked into the office so the employee could write up an estimate for the repair, which took him about ten minutes. The estimate was itemized and was over $350. I notice for the hanger, which was all I wanted done, was listed at 0.6 labor hours and cost $51. I thought 40 minutes to weld a hanger was outrageous since it is less than a five minute job. Since I already agreed to pay the $35 inspection, I told the employee that I would pay the $51 to get the hanger fixed. The employee then told me I had to bring my vehicle back at 7:30 the next morning. I was quite irritated because the job could have been completed by the end of business quite easily. I paid the $35 and said I would be back in the morning. After leaving, I decided to stop in at Performance, where I was planning on going originally, to get a second opinion. Even though, every bay was full and the lot was full with cars, I did not even get out of my vehicle before an employee was asking me how can they help me. I explained that I had just come from Black Canyon and they wasted over an hour of my time and did not even fix the problem. The employee at Performance told me no problem, we will take care of it. He immediately moved another vehicle out of the bay and pulled my vehicle right in. He looked at the broken hanger and said no problem, and got to work right then and there. The work was done in less than five minutes, that includes the welding and moving my vehicle out of the bay. When I inquired about the price, the employee said do not worry about it, if you want to give a tip that is fine. I happily gave him a $25 tip, and was on the road again. Three days later, I have no rattling and the problem is solved. I looked online to do a review of Black Canyon and the website said to call and talk to Dwayne, who is the owner, for questions and comments. Since I am a slow typer and usually do not leave reviews, I decided to call Dwayne and tell him what had happened and tell him about my experience. The employee that serviced me at Black Canyon, turned out to be Dwayne, the owner. I was shocked. I decided to give him my feedback of my experience at his shop was and how his competitors handled the job. He started to try and argue with me that Performance did not fix the problem but I conveyed that it had been three days and the problem was gone. I told him I was quite irritated that the job was not completed after spending over an hour at his empty auto repair shop. He chuckled when I told him maybe this is why your shop is empty at 3pm on a friday afternoon. If you think I work for or represent Performance in any way, you are wrong, I am just a very satisfied customer that is why I used their name. I think everyone in Montrose and the surrounding area should boycott Black Canyon and take their business to Performance instead. Overall this place wasted over an hour of my time, and I feel they scammed me out of $35. I believe all the good reviews of this company came from affiliates and they are bogus, or they did not have the owner take of them. This place is horrible do not do business with them.
