After Carl found us a good used part instead of soaking us
for the $180 new one, it turned out the fix couldn't be
finished during regular hours. We needed the car for an
early departure the next day. Carl paid his guy overtime to
get it done, didn't charge us any extra for that, and then
came to the shop at 8PM to let us pick up the car.
Another time we were having a number of minor things done at
once. Carl made a mistake on his estimate, and forgot to
mention a $35 part the car would need. So he just threw that
in, rather than go over his estimate.
Bottom line: loyal, satisfied customers, and loyal mechanics
who like working for the guy we call the "Duke of Volvo".
If you find can a better, more helpful, more honest mechanic
... well, you won't, that's all.

I had one shop tell me I needed a whole new engine ($1700) and another tell me I needed a new carburator ($700)when I heard about this guy. He found out it was the base gasket on the carburator and some spark plug wires and fixed everything, changed my oil and gave me a loaner for a day for a little over $200. He's continued to be as honest and capable since then. (3 years)

Carl Duke has been working on our Volvo's for 10 years or more. He moved from working for the dealer to his own shop because he didn't like the dishonest way the dealer handled service. He is scrupulously honest and fair. He will always try and find a used part (in perfect shape) if he can save you money that way. He does little extra things at no charge. He always tells you more than you want to know about the repair and saves the defective part to show you. If you are in a hurry he always tries to get the car to you in one day. All the mechanics in his shop are superior in their knowledge and ability. My Volvo is a 1988 he put a rebuilt engine in a year ago after 250,000miles when I burned it out and this one also runs beautifully. He has kept my teenage son's 82 volvo from dying the natural death a 16 year old can create in a car. He is the best!

Carl has kept my 87 Volvo on the road for the 9 years I've
lived in Fort Collins and I trust him almost as much as I
trust my husband. Wait. Maybe MORE than I trust my
husband. He can fix anything, and he'll throw in parts for
free if he can. He is patient and doesn't pressure me into
anything - he divides repairs into safety issues (need to
fix) and cosmetic (fix if you want to). Gets the big
picture (I want to be buried with my Volvo) and also the
bottom line (why I'm driving a 22 year old car in the first
place). If you own a Volvo in Fort Collins, you know
Carl. Carl's the man.
