Fred's shop is the cleanest I have ever seen. He employs a guy full time just to keep the place pristine. It's like a surgery! But best of all is the satisfaction of getting the job done right the first time around. No surprises. Highly recommended.

I've had Fred work on our 1997 E320 several times and have always been impressed with his knowledge of M-B vehicles. He is factory trained, a former Dealer Service Manager and always is looking out for "what's best for the customer" not what's best for his "boat payment"!!! He not only diagnoses and fixes current problems but provides info or what may be the next thing in need of attention. Always freely shares his vast knowledge and experience with these vehicles. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

This guy certainly knows the Mercedes jargon but his dedication to actually fixing problems is a far cry from what any customer has a right to expect from a $155 per hour mechanic. After months of dealing with Fred and finally becoming FED-UP with his talk about how great he is, his high prices and pathetic workmanship. I took the car, with all Fred’s problems to another Mercedes Repair Mechanic (Ramon). A far better mechanic “Ramon, who has 17 years of MBZ repair experience” fixed all Fred’s problems for $85.00 per hour and Ramon gave me a discount on the parts. (My estimate is Ramon’s charges are about half of Fred’s charges). Fred did a lot of work on my 2005 Mercedes S500 for which he charged me a bundle but the problems were NOT solved by Fred. I paid for Fred’s “attempted” repairs at Fred’s full rate of $155.00/hr plus full retail on the parts. The moral imperative is to put the truth about this shop, Fred, and his repair practices in front of the public. FRED’S PROBLEMS WRONG TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL 1) The car shifted rough after Fred charged $500.00 for the transmission fluid change and then he said “all 05 S500 Mercedes transmissions have cold shifting problems.” Ramon my new mechanic observed the transmission fluid was a quart low, added the quart, no more problem. After paying Fred in full, he left me with the problem – Ramon fixed it with a quart of fluid. NO SHIFT PROBLEMS NOW – HOT OR COLD!

~~CONTINUATION~~ --TRYING TO SELL UNNEEDED REPAIRS 2) Fred quoted a $1,000.00 for replacement of the PSE pump (PSE Pump works the door locks) The door locks stopped working so I asked Fred to check into the problem---Fred “claims” he cycled the system and it worked momentarily, then shut down again. Fred said “It’ll be about a grand to replace it”. Ramon simply cycled the system (that was months ago) --- The pse pump still works, perfectly (I wonder how much of the $1,000.00 was Fred’s profit?) Cycling the PSE pump takes 2 minutes – (Ramon said, “no charge”). --MAL – ADJUSTED BRAKES 3) Fred completed an expensive break job on this car including the parking brake with new parking brake parts. I paid Fred over $2,000, then he left the parking brake system improperly adjusted resulting in burning the new parking brake pads. Ramon simply, adjusted the parking brake correctly (I now need new parking brake pads that were just replaced by Fred). When Fred was informed that he had mal-adjusted the parking brake, he stated in an email “There is no wrong way to adjust the parking break.” – C’mon Fred, how stupid is that??? --FIVE TRIPS TO FIX THE WINDSHIELD WASHER 4) Fred fixed the windshield washer after 5 trips not 2, not 3, or 4 but 5. Only on the 5th trip did he cycle the system to verify its function (Fred wasted a lot of my time for this small repair). --FRED’S SILLY EXCUSES 5) My radio stopped working. I asked Fred what he would suggest and he said “I’ll find a used one for you.” I said “Great.” He then, sent me a quote for $5,900.00, and an email that said, “Repair of your radio - not my problem - it’s yours.” I had the radio fixed for $680.00 with a full one year warranty – Works great for over $5,000 less than Fred was going to charge me.

Had to chime in here. I could not have had a more different experience than the reviewer LennyNord34! Fred @ Hanson's has worked on my Mercedes for 20 plus years. Very qualified, watches out for your money and really knows how to manage what should be done and when. He worked at Mercedes Benz and was a Mercedes Benz Dealership foreman. I never was completely comfortable with the Dealer but always figured they know the product best and that kept me there, but a few aggressive bills brought me to Fred. Very reliable, honest and smart. He is VERY ethical-possesses amazing character. I have brought 4 different Mercedes to him over the last 20 years. One thing I appreciate is Fred gives me a list of what needs to be done on a timetable. That way, I can budget my car repairs. An added bonus: He has a wicked sense of humor. I would highly recommend this mechanic located in San Mateo. Over the years I have sent him many customers and never heard anything but praise.

I have known Fred Hanson for over 25 years. I found him after having a bad experience with a Mercedes Dealer. You will not be able to find a better Mercedes Mechanic. He is honest and will explain to you what is wrong with your car and advise you what may need to be looked at in the future. You get a clear picture of your cars condition. If you do not need it he does not try to sell it to you like the dealer does. This is a man that you can trust. You get to talk with the guy that actually does the works on your car. Also his shop very impressive, have never seen one so clean. Take it from me, this guy knows what he is doing and he will do the job right.

Fred Hanson's Mercedes knowledge is unparalleled. I started visiting him after a friend's recommendation. He 'll not only tackle any repair your car needs, he will encourage and advise you if you like to work on your own car and answer any questions you have. His shop is the most immaculate I 've ever seen. Top-notch mechanic, the go-to shop for all Mercedes Benz repairs.

I've been going to Freds shop for the last 4 years he has been the sole mechanic on the last 2 cars I've owned and will be the only mechanic I'll ever take my car to again. I've been screwed over at multiple dealerships (stealerships). Fred has always been very honest with what needs to be done and has given me options on when to have the work done to stay within a budget. His shop is absolutely spotless which makes me happy leaving my cars with him and shows me he takes pride in his work and space. Fred was recommended to me by a co-worker when he had heard I had a electrical problem that the dealership couldn't diagnose and after spending over 1500 dollars at the dealership on parts that didn't fix the car, I took the car to Fred and he figured out the problem and got it fixed without having me throw more money into parts that didn't fix the problem. After this issue I've taken my car to Fred for servicing which he has done an outstanding job at. Treats me and my family well.

Fred is the best Mercedes mechanic in the area. I have taken my car to him for years. Most recently, he put a new transmission in my car and I found his price to be fair and his work to be excellent. Fred was trained in Germany and is very knowledgeable. Whenever I have a question about my car he is always able to give me an answer and advise me on what I should do to keep it running strong. I can say without a doubt he is a trustworthy mechanic that will do his best to keep your Mercedes running at its best. If you want professional work, Fred is your guy.
