Jon's a very nice guy. He'll arrange to get you a ride or to leave your car out for pick-up after hours. Always very professional, very honest, and willing to attempt unconventional repairs if you're willing to take a chance.

Hank inherited the shop from his father, and has kept up the tradition of solid and honest service. Hank will usually work you a deal, especially if you're a repeat customer. The shop is conveniently located near downtown PA, and is two blocks from the CalTrain station.

Jon & Jim Bartunek run a little, kinda grimy but otherwise top flight operation. They cared for my 1989 Chevy S-10 Blazer for three years. The vehicle had over 200K miles. Jon always explained everything that needed to be done and my options for the work, never hesitating to tell me how I could save money. The work was always done on schedule and I almost never have trouble making an appointment.

I have been taking my car to Jon for more than 15 years, and I would not go anywhere else. Jon is thoroughly knowledgeable, honest and trustworthy, and remains cheerful and takes the time to explain things even when the shop is extremely busy (which it usually is). I have always gotten my car back when and as promised. Jon has many loyal customers and deservedly so. I don't find car maintenance and repairs fun, but it's great not to have anxiety about it.

Jon Bartunek has been my mechanic for approximately ten years, and he is absolutely wonderful, in addition to being extremely courteous, honest, reliable, convenient and reassuring. He always inspects, or has one of his staff inspect, my car for possible future problems (like a corroded battery or a starting-to-corrode radiator) and also points out repairs which he feels are unnecessary, such as taking all the dings out of a 1995 Ford Escort, which he said would not be cost-effective. He is very sensitive to the kind of driving I do (city only) and advised me against purchasing a more expensive car, telling me he *never* advises anyone to part with a mechanically reliable vehicle. I would highly recommend Jon Bartunek and Union Garage to anyone in the neighborhood. BTW telephone number is (415) 673-5728; please add it to your listing.

I purchased a '95 Subaru Legacy LSI wagon that needed a new transmission. The woman from whom I purchased the car had gotten her service done at Union St. Garage for over 5 yrs. and highly recommended Jon to me. The trans I arranged for had a problem that initially appeared to be major, but thanks to Jon's going extra steps and contacting the AT's vendor it turned out being easily fixed at very little additional cost. The job was expertly done at a very fair price, and much faster than I could have hoped for. I will continue using them and have no hesitation recommending them highly.

Jon is that rare and valuable combination of skill and honesty. I took my Jeep in to fix a problem. Instead of charging me for a repair, Jon suggested I try the dealer as it was likely covered by warranty. He saved me hundreds of dollars and cost him the job in the process. He has always been accomodating and fair through the three cars I have brought to him for service over the last 14 years.

Few people demonstrate a right to even operate within a profession. Jon and his staff at Union St. Garage definitely do. My broken-down car was visited, diagnosed, towed in, and repaired that same day! He stayed a little after business hours to make sure that I had my car for the weekend. The charges were far less than what I expected, including the tow from Larry's Towing (which was also a great service recommended by Jon). Jon is a legacy owner/operator that deserves all the business that he can handle!

I was ready to give up on my 12 year old civic (when it started making some loud gurgling/tapping noises) until my neighbor recommended talking to Jon. He looked at my car and quickly knew what was the most likely cause of the noise. I was expecting the repair to cost more than it was worth for the age (and mileage) of the car, and I was pleasntly surprised with how quick and reasonable the repair actually turned out to be. My car was making a tapping noise for two years after going to another shop in the city for a valve adjustment (the tapping started after the valve adjustment and after repeated readjustment to no avail, I gave up). After Jon repaired my car, I don't even hear the tapping anymore! I've lived within a block of the Union Street Garage for over 14 years, and I wish I had know about them before all the other work I had done at other shops in San Francisco for the last 10 years! I definitely will go back to the Union Street Garage!

Jon is really a nice, competent guy. I'm picky about mechanics but once they make an impression and treat me right, I'm exceedingly loyal. Jon took the time to explain his shop philosophy, fit me in right away, and gave me a fair price. I felt very comfortable leaving my Mazda with him and he did a great job.
