Dave and crew have always serviced our vehicles, and several friends that we've referred to his shop. Our female friends are always impressed in how the repairs were done, and that he took the time to explain basic check to avoid trouble. They are one of the few, if not the only shop in Sacramento, to work on biodiesel vehicles.

I was stuck in Sacramento with an electrical problem. Black Rock was located in the neighborhood in which I was working, and Dave and Mark took great care of me. I was all set to pay for the purchase and installation of a new alternator, and was very pleased to get a call informing me that my alternator was fine, and all I needed was a battery. I'm always impressed when a mechanic has a great chance to rip me off, and refrains from doing so. I enjoyed the eclectic decor, and the attitude represented by this shop. I'll go back there if I'm ever in need in the Sacramento area.

Black Rock Auto used to be a great shop but I guess they lost their VW mechanic. They repaired my car and made a big mistake and it cost me over $600 to have it repaired when refused to try to repair it properly. They did not respond to my phone calls. When my car finally failed completely I had it towed in. They bled the system and said there was no problem. When it failed again, they refused to help, so I had it towed to the VW dealer. They found a part had been left out. I'm glad it was my clutch and not my brakes.

I briefly took my Infiniti and Miata there. I later found out that a repair was ddone to my Infiniti before a lesser option was tried. With regard to my Miata I was quoted $1,100 in labor and multiple days to replace my top. When I asked how many he had previously done, I was told two or three. I contacted another mechanic from the Car Talk site, who has done over 100 top replacements. He charged me $300 in labor and installed the top it in half a day.
