After reading the comments here, I took my 91 Acura Legend to Oakland Autoworks because my clutch was failing. Everything I read here turned out to be true. Sammy was very friendly, probably the friendliest person I've ever dealt with in the auto repair business. He took a lot of time to explain everything about the clutch repair, and gave me estimates for some other minor problems I was having. They did the work in a little over one day and returned my car cleaner than when I brought it in. The price was very fair, no bargain, but you get what you pay for. I can't say I look forward to my next repair, but at least I will feel confident about where to go.

Excellent customer service skills. They make you feel at home and are ready to answer any questions. I always feel good going to this shop knowing that I will not get taken. As a woman, this is very important. The office folks are great, Sammy, Glen and Ceale are wonderful people with a great sense of pride of what they do. They always seem to be smiling regardless of the weather. The only thing I'm not too crazy about is they are by appointment only, sometimes it takes days to schedule. I guess this is a good thing, since they are a good shop. Keep up the good work!

I went to Oakland Auto works because of the strong recommendations on CarTalk.com. I was very disappointed -- their prices seemed extremely high to me (2x what I was quoted at other places), and when I asked them why, they explained that other mechanics would give me lower prices, then jack up the price when the work was being done. They charged me just for checking out problems I already knew I had, then wanted to charge me more than other people to fix them. I'm sure they're very good, but I can't afford them ...

I had some trouble here. My engine had overheated with 200,000 miles and they assured me that they would check out all indications of a damaged engine before going ahead with any work. They resonably told me that if there was engine damage that they wouldn't recommend a replacement engine. Well, no engine problems found, so they replaced the radiator for about 800 dollars. A few days later the engine overheats on the way to an important meeting and I notice the coolant level is below registering without any leaks. The car is towed to the shop. Well, the engine oil now looks like peanut butter- a sure sign of tragic engine problems (not seen before). So instead of lose the new radiator investment, I am referred to a shop to replace the engine (which I wouldn't have replaced if they had origonally found engine damage). Obviously, I cannot blame them for my engine problems, but really, why weren't they able to detect any problems with the engine. I felt upset, primarily with a percieved incompetance on their part and also now spending thousands that I wouldn't have. Fortunately they were empathetic and wanted to help. Unfortunately, the engine shop they highly recommended, Japan Parts, which replaced the motor, didn't replace any of the hoses and sure enough they each failed one by one a couple of days apart from eachother in the most inconvienant places. Anyway, my experience probably isn't typical and I don't think they were being capricious at Oakland Auto Works, though at Japan Parts they tried to take me for a ride about spark plugs which was totally unprofessional. Overall, Oakland Auto Works have been patient with helping my car.

Sammy (works in the office) is super nice and really takes the time to explain what's going on with your car. He is also very pragmatic and doesn't just say, "Let's repair it." if getting a new car is the better option. I say this because my car was needing more and more catastrophic repairs. Anyway, it's hard--very hard--to find someone that you can trust in the automobile repair business. That's why I'm sticking with them.

These people has got to be the best car repair people in the world. I brought my Acura in for a problem that I was assured to spend a lot of money on. My engine was overheating and stopping. They comforted me and assured that my car and I will be ok. They checked out the problem and explained it to me thouroughly. There was never a moment that I felt like I was getting ripped off. They are very warm people with a lot of knowledge about cars. They seem like the enjoy what they do and that is important to us. Best of all, they cleaned my car, gave me a ride home and picked me back up. These guys are great!!

I have been taking my cars to Oakland Auto Works for 20 years. I purposely bought a Japanese car so I could continue using them. It is such a relief to have an honest, competent mechanic. The fact that I can drop off my car in the morning and get it back, fixed, the same day is well worth the cost. Over the course of the years I have been bringing my cars in, there have been several times that I had a problem then and there and it was fixed right away. I like this company so much I bring them home made cookies at Christmas time. Keep up the good work.
