My husband and I have taken our cars exclusively to Helming's for years, ever since Mike was able to quickly diagnose and correct a problem that three other shops and hundreds of dollars couldn't fix. They are conveniently located and competitively-priced, and their honesty about what needs to be fixed and what can wait is much appreciated. Wish we had found them sooner!

Mike Reelfs, the owner of Hemlings, took time to explain what was going on with my car so I understood. In my 20 years of dealing with car repair they are the most honest mechanics I've run into. They're resonably priced and care about each customer. They're the best mechanics I've experienced on the Bay Area Peninusla.

As a single Mom - with little extra money, & even less knowledge about cars - I really need a shop I can trust & depend upon. This is it!! They also answer all of my questions in a respectful, non-condescending manner.

I've been going to this shop for 25+ years. Absolutely the best I've ever used when owned by Bob Helmings. Under new owner, Mike Reelfs, still the same high quality service.

My experience goes back decades. Don't know what they do if they screw up because they never have. Don't know if they treat male and female customers alike because I only know how they treat this male, but I've never heard any sexist talk. There's no public transportation nearby, and I've never needed a ride, so I can't speak to the last question, but I'm sure I could count on a reasonable lift if I needed one. On several occasions, I've stopped by with a minor problem which has been fixed (by tightening something I didn't know needed tighening or some such) on the spot gratis

When I had my car serviced by a previously unknown mechanic, he gave me a list of many repairs he said I needed. When I went to two other mechanics to get a second opinion, they both offered to inspect my car for a price: either their regular hourly or half-hourly charge. The third shop I went to was Helmings where the owner, Mike Roelles, did a free inspection, calculated what the cost would be to fix the things that needed fixing and told me that none of it needed to be done now. Thus I walked out with not only a free inspection and an estimate for future repairs but, most important of all, a relationship with a trustworthy mechanic who I knew would tell me the truth and not try to rip me off.

I've taken my van in for a minor problem and had it fixed on the spot for free. They're friendly, competent, and the only reason I stopped using them is I donated my 14 year old, medium length, Dodge Van for a Smart which I dearly love. I'm leery about having mechanics learn on my Smart, so I took it to the dealer last month for my first (10,000 mile oil change and checkup). Great, great shop.

We take both our vehicles there. We've had US and foreign makes. Nice people. Deal as well with car nuts as with non car-speak individuals. They point out things we might have missed, yet don't try to have us do work we don't need. Have fit us in in emergencies. Since we found them ~15 years ago we wouldn't go anywhere else if what we need is work they do.

I really wish I could like this shop - they are friendly and do take the time to explain things. But I am done after I've paid $530 to fix a CEL evap code only to have it keep coming back on (including $60 in labor to tell me nothing is wrong when the light came back on after their first repair, only to change their mind and find another bad part when the light came back on a third time). Now they tell me to go to the dealer since there might a computer issue. Gee, thanks, can I also have my $530 back please?
