After multiple trips to the local Ford dealership, being "green flagged" there (their term for me being a pain - or in my book just wanted my car fixed properly), and never having the problem resolved (or even acknowledging that it existed), I went to Herb and Red's. They are located within walking distance from my house, so it is easy to drop off and pick up my car. Jim is always very friendly, and offered to inspect my car at no charge to see if they could find what the problem was. They called back the same day to say they found the problem, and offered the solution. They use all Ford Motorcraft parts when replacing/repairing. I have brought my car back for all larger services, and any problems that arise, and always get great treatment. Jim is willing to help with scheduling repairs into my tight work schedule, always getting my car back to me as soon as possible. They are honest, and charge fair prices for their quality work. As a woman, I never feel like they are trying to pull the wool over my eyes. They don't go out of their way to talk over my head and make me feel dumb either. I will continue to bring my car to them for many years.

I had an oil change (somewhere else) a week ago and they told me I needed a tune up (new spark plugs, distributor cap, etc). I called the dealer to get an estimate and they put it just under $200 including labor. Then I called Herb and Red's Jim patiently asked questions and explained what it would entail. I dropped the car off this morning and a few hours later he called to tell me that there was no work necessary, everything checked out fine, and that unless something untoward happened, I wouldn't need new spark plugs until 100,000 miles (I'm at 60,000). To top it all off, he didn't charge me. At all. He was very nice, thorough, informative and best of all, HONEST! Gotta love that. Patronize this place!!!!

I read about the shop on this site initially, and my experience was right in line with others' experience. Above all, the DID WHAT THEY SAID THE WERE GOING TO DO; they DID IT ON TIME; they charged LESS than they said they were going to, and they were just plain NICE. What a find! Thank you, Car Talk, for sending me their way!

Jim is a rad dude that is easy going and dedicated to running a competent shop. It seems to be just him and "the greasy guy" that work there, but they get a lot done... although sometimes they are too busy to conveniently schedule an oil change. But the size of the place seems to be directly related to getting quality work done honestly- so I will continue to give them 100% of our car issues and direct everyone that asks to Herb and Reds.

Every time I had to bring in my car for scheduled (or on occasion unscheduled) repairs, I (a woman) was treated with dignity, kindness, and not like I'm stupid. Problems were explained to me, and I was treated with respect. Further, I became known to them through my seven-year relationship with this group of mechanics. When I moved out of state one of my greatest regrets is that I couldn't take the shop with me.

They will stay open late for you so you can pick up your repaired vehicle. If possible they will take you to your place of employment, or your home while they repair your vehicle. Always very nice to the customers. And fair prices too.

I found the shop here on this site and have since had to go in for three major repairs. When he did not have time to look at the car on the day I took it in, he called the owner of a radiator shop and sent me their. The radiator shop diagnosed the problem, figured out it was not the radiator, assured me the repair could wait a week or so, and they sent me back to Herb and Red's. I feel completely confident that Jim (Herb and Red retired awhile ago) thoroughly dianoses the problem before he gives me an answer, rather than trying to fix something, only to discover that it was the wrong repair. His prices are better than the big places I've been to because they always seem to find extra charges to slip in at the point of no return. On one repair the estimate was twice as much as the final charge because he discovered, once he got in there, that the other part did not need to be replaced. He is completely cool about explaining stuff to me without ever talking down to me as a woman, and he does not promise something he can't do. If he says I'll have the car back by a certain time, I have the car back. He has, on a couple of occasions, bent over backwards to help me when I've been in a bind. I can't say enough good stuff about this shop: my anxiety level about having a 9 year old car has dropped almost completely. I know that my car will be fixed, I will get a fair deal, and he will always stand by his work! A dream come true!
