Great mechanic for Toyota and Lexus cars. Been going there
for years, and have been highly satisfied.

Customers are so loyal to this mechanic that when he relocated from Tuscon
(180 miles away) customers continued to bring their vehicles to him, especially
Land Cruisers.

We have been taking our Toyotas (3 now) to Dan for the last
1 and 1/2 years. Dan has provided excellent service every
time. We have had everything from routine oil changes (can
usually do while we wait) to more extensive repairs like
timing belts, brakes, waterpump replacement, and shocks. We
really trust his work, and have recommended his shop many
times now to friends and family with Toyota vehicles.

This is a mom & pop garage. Dan and Angela have always
been upfront and exceptionally honest, often recommending
that I NOT have something done that I thought should be.
They do my oil changes while I wait (abt. 45 min with an
appt.), and check over my vehicle to let me know of
anything that needs (or will need) attention. It sure
beats buying into the dealership's so-called "preventive
maintenance" services (blue, gold, etc.) that cost $250-500
and do nothing but "check" things. Also, Dan's charges
only $20 to run the computerized diagnostic--compared to
around $90 by my dealer. I feel absolutely confident with
my car in Dan and Angela's hands (2003 Toyota Camry, 68000
miles), and highly recommend them

I am a single female who knows next to nothing about cars. I have been taking
my Toyotas (3 of them) to Dan for 3 years. I have always found Dan and Angela
(his delightful wife and receptionist) to be fair, honest, and extremely
competent. We have never had to return to have a job redone. When I take my
car in for an oil change, they check the car over and tell me what work may
need to be done in the future. They also tell me what is not worth fixing. They
keep all records on computer, so they can easily look up what they did before,
and when. My son's '95 Lexus needed quite a bit of work. They prioritized the
repairs into affordable chunks. When my '07 Camry Hybrid needed new tires,
they did the research on line and sent me out the door with 3 suggested tires
that would work best for that model. This is a mechanic you can TRUST.

We were in Utah on vacation when our 1996 Toyota
Landcruiser started having problems. We wound up in Moab,
Utah, and called Dan Pratt, the owner of Dan's Toy Shop in
Tucson, and asked him to go on-line and recommend a repair
shop in Moab. Dan did this, and then over the next several
days we would call Dan and give him updates on what the
repair shop in Moab was finding (or not finding) as the
cause of the problem. Dan probably spent 3-4 hours over
this time period offering suggestions and trying to
diagnose long-distance. We left Moab and headed straight
to Tucson and dropped the Landcruiser off at Dan's. He
fixed the problem (both steering knuckles needed to be
rebuilt), and did not charge us for any of the time he had
spent on the phone with us. Dan and his crew always check
out our Toyotas from stem to stern anytime we bring them
in, and will always give us a heads-up on potential future
problems. Dan is honest and extremely competent.

I've been a customer of Dan and Angela's for the last few
years. They've kept my 2006 Camry in tip-top shape. Prices
are very reasonable.
As a three-car garage, it's recommended that one schedule
routine maintenance and service, but they're often available
during business hours for unscheduled emergencies. A few
months ago, my front-left brake was making an awful
squealing, grinding sound that had my seriously worried. I
stopped in the afternoon, unscheduled, and they took off the
wheel and thoroughly examined the brake and its related
components. Turns out a small rock had wedged itself between
the pad and rotor and was scraping on the rotor. It was
removed, the brakes inspected again, and the wheel
re-mounted. They didn't even charge me, but I nevertheless
insisted on paying.
Their oil change service costs around $28 on my Camry,
including parts and labor. At the present, they use Mobil
Clean 5000 motor oil (a high-quality, conventional oil) but
will happily use any oil the customer supplies. They were
even happy to take a sample of my used oil so I could send
it off to the lab for analysis, which confirmed that my car
is in good working order.
Service is quick, the staff is pleasant, and everything is
conducted in an honest, aboveboard fashion.

I found Dan's Toy Shop by looking on the Car Talk web site 3 years ago. I own a 1989 Toyota V6 Pickup, and, shortly after moving to Tucson, it
required an engine rebuild. Dan completed the job in about 3 weeks for
under $4000. This included everything and also a new clutch plate (not the
pad, the actual plate, which was difficult to find for a 1989 Toyota) and the
belts, valves, etc. The really most impressive thing was that the car now
drives like it did when new, and I have had no trouble with the car for over
20K miles.
Dan's shop also takes care of a 2002 Land Cruiser for me, and he was able to
tweak out the suspension so that it rides perfectly.
Dan's team seems to have extensive expertise in all aspects of Toyotas, Lexus
and Scions. They are friendly and responsive. Angela is the best.

If you live in Tucson and own a Toyota, I strongly encourage
you to give Dan's Toy Shop a chance to earn your business.
Starting with my first contact with Angela (Dan's wife), I
felt like my patronage was appreciated. Every aspect of the
requested repairs were explained and the price was very
competitive. When I picked up my vehicle, Angela outlined
some services that may be needed in the future. There was
no pressure to fix things that did not need immediate
attention. Thank you Angela and Dan. I will bring both of
my Toyotas to your shop for future service and I will
recommend you whenever I get a chance. -Robert

Dan's Toy Shop was recommended to me by several people in
town. They have skilled technicians, three service bays,
and use all genuine Toyota parts. It's rare to find a
mechanic/service shop that's honest; it seems like all the
shops are trying to make a quick buck at someone's expense
by upselling unnecessary services or parts.
