Besides explaining everything in detail they are always in good humor. The latter may result from the fact that they are river runners and take regular vacations and they are only open 5 days a week.

I was driving from Northern Minnesota to Los Angeles, and my car had started to make a weird knocking noise around Colorado Springs. So By the time I got to Flagstaff, on my way to the Grand Canyon, the sound had become REALLY loud. So I brought the Celica into the Toyota repair shop, they were booked so they sent me to R & A. It turned out the wheel bearing needed to be replaced and I needed a new hub. Unfortunately, I wasn't planning on staying in Flagstaff, and my car HAD to be fixed. So, the guys at R & A took my car the next morning, machined the hub[since there was 1 hub for my particular car in the whole country at the time], replaced the wheel bearing and sent me on my way!!! It's been almost 2 months since and the car is still doing great and most importantly it got my to LA with NO problems.

These guys are fantastic! They do great work, are great fun, and are very honest. Name another shop with four out of four Master Mechanics!

These guys are the best in town. Honesty and competence are their trademarks. Everyone I know goes to them.

I have consistently received spectacular service and alot of respect from every employee at R & A. Once when planning a trip, Jeff rode around with me listening to a noise, then offered to squeeze my car in for repairs before I left, despite their busy schedule. I have received rides home from them when requested, and always get a followup call from them asking how the car is running. All this is more than I've ever received from a mechanic, and this is all common practice for them. In addition, I don't have to deal with any of the sexist "Ah, little filly, I know better than you what's wrong with your car". They explain details of the repairs with me, and help me prioritize needed repairs if I can't afford to have it all done at once. I have taken my vehicles to them for the last 5 years, and hope they are open forever.

We have taken our Toyota cars and pick-ups to R&A for 12 years. When we looked for a 'new' used car Bill did a complete inspection for $12.50 and gave us a complete report. He did the same thing for our daughter when she wanted an old MR2. When our cars get old Bill talks with us about which items to repair and which to let go. These guys are saints!

Bill and the guys are great. I had an old Toyota pickup which they kept in fine working order, despite my attempts to destroy it. Although his price tag is a bit steep, the quality of service was fantastic. They give you the options of what needs to be done, what should be done, and what can be put off till later. The best is that they are boaters as well! it was great being in the Grand Canyon and seeing my mechanic paddle by! I always feel at ease when chatting with them. I recently moved from Flagstaff, and called Bill to see what he recommended I do to locate a new mechanic. His advice was practical, and freely given. I still own a Toyota, and when I move back to Flag, will still gladly take it to Bill and the gang.

When my '86 pick up was leaking oil, they found the leaks and recommended not fixing the crankshaft seal due to cost. When the brake light came on on the dash, they quickly traced the problem to a sticky ignition switch, lubed it, and sent me on my way at not charge. They have always seemed to have plenty of work waiting, but they do your job when they say or before.

This a totally bias opinion, being Bill Porter's brother, However, I thought that I would relay alittle story of Bill. After graduating ASU and prior to heading to my career in LA, I took an oppertunity to visit Bill in Flagstaff. While there, Bill & I decided that we would both head to the shop to work on our own cars. (It was a Sunday afternoon) While there, I proceeded to complete the necessary maintenance and repairs on my truck. Bill, however, had nothing but people stopping in looking for help. Most of the people where from out of town and just passing through Flag when they ran into car problems. Each one said that they had asked for recomendations and even the dealerships recomended R&A. Bill helped each one and sent them on their happy way. He never did touch his own car.
