Pat, the manager will talk you out of things I don't really need. He's calm and reassuring. My family has used him for 20 years.

We are very happy with this shop, and that's like saying you love the guy who pulls your teeth. Pat, the manager, is excellent. If he says you need something, you need it. (He has steered us away from replacing good brake pads.) We started going to this shop within the past few years and we are very pleased. We heartily recommend Cantrell Service Center.

They never try to get you to buy anything that you don't really need. If they notice anything that is wearing out but not yet worn out they will make a note of it and monitor it next time you come in. Many, many years ago I worked for a big name tire company (who shall remain nameless...But if you have a "pleasant 365 days" you may be able to guess) that encouraged employees and mechanics to "sell, sell, sell" even if the customer didn't really need the particular service at the time....The customer would eventually need the service and there's no point in waiting to get their money. Cantrell Service Center is NOT like that. They seem to realize that if they treat you right today...You'll come back and give 'em your money when you really DO need the job done.

Honest service yields a great deal of free advertising. In 2011, CSC replaced a head gasket in our 2002 Subaru Outback. This was after they tried a Subaru-specific additive in the cooling system, and we knew it was only a matter of time before we would have to have the head gasket done. Having paid $2900 for a well-cared-for Outback, after checking for leaks prior to purchase, we knew we might have a gasket problem to deal with and knew it would not be an inexpensive repair. I took the Outback in for oil change 11 months after the head gasket repair. The mechanic noted some oil drops and wanted us to bring it back in so they would have time to investigate the oil leak. When all was said and done, the leak was found to be related to the prior work, still under warranty, and CSC repaired everything at no cost to us. They could have ignored the leak, not told us, and then charged us for the repair at some point in the future. We will continue using CSC and recommend them.
