Calvin and Johnnie of Royal Auto are the best! I cannot believe that they are not already listed in your survey results. I started going there on the recommendation of a neighborhood friend. All the friends I have from my old neighborhood (Bolton Hill) take their cars to Calvin and Johnnie, and not just because, as it turns out, that those 2 guys grew up in Bolton Hill. Calvin specializes in engine work; John, in body repair. They and their workers are honest and dependable, and the prices are terrific. The only drawback in my last years in charm city was that word of mouth spread enough about Royal Auto that I had to make appointments for some of my major repairs! They have since expanded their facility in order to help more hapless drivers in a state where the cars are only inspected once per ownership of a vehicle. Finally, how much do I trust these guys? I recently had the need to but another car. I found this to be a traumatic experience, given my gras student budget and the fact that I have to make some hefty trips 1-2 times a week from my new residence in Greensboro, NC. As I was getting ready to make an offer, whom did I call for advice? You can bet Calvin was on the list, and he kindly took the time to talk to me. I respect him and his partner enough to recomment them as guest Tom and Ray's on your show!!

I have been a customer of Calvin's for more than 20 years. I have such confidence in his operation that I can safely say "fix anything you might find" when leaving the car for routine maintence. Even with those instructions, I am always called to be involved with the decision to make the repair on any unexpected problem found. As a female, I have never been treated as a "dumb little woman", in fact, Calvin takes the time to explain the repairs and answer any questions I may have. Forget the dealer, I'll go to Royal Auto!

THEY SAVED MY CAR - AND MY BANK ACCOUNT. I took my 99' Nissan Sentra (66,000 mi) to Royal Auto for a second opinion, after I was told by a Nissan dealership that I would need about $2,000 in repairs OR a new engine. When I first went to the shop, I was impressed that the manager Calvin took the time to really listen to my situation and I made an appointment for my car to be looked at. What they found was INCREDIBLE. Instead of a $2,000 repair, it turned out to be a $4. - that's FOUR DOLLAR rubber gasket that was the problem. Calvin kept me informed of each step in the process of looking into the engine, got my authorization to do more investigating, and then showed me exactly what the problem was - the $4 piece of rubber. I couldn't be more impressed with this shop. They literally saved my car.
