as a 20-something female with little to no automobile knowledge and income, I'm happy to recommend this shop as the only one I will take my car to around here - whether for a basic oil change or brake replacements or any other type of work. I can always expect an honest and "frugal" answer from John, the owner, who is probably the most trustworthy, patient and good-natured guys I've ever met at any auto shop (and I've been to many). they never recommend unnecessary service or parts, and they treat you like an old friend and intelligent human being the minute you walk through the door. I've called John for personal car shopping and bodywork advice on numerous occasions, and he's always willing to stop what he's doing and answer all of my questions. just this morning, I drove my car into the shop because I needed a new headlight but couldn't get the hood to pop open. I explained to John that if I could just get the hood open, I could probably replace the lamp myself. with a dubious chuckle, he said "oh yeah?" and helped me open and lubricate the hood latch, then proceeded to watch/guide me through a lamp replacement right there in his shop. when it was all said and done (after some much-needed assistance from John along the way), he wouldn't even let me pay him anything for almost an hour of his time. I truly can't say enough good things about them, and apparently I'm not the only person around here who feels that way too. this particular Monro shop has been voted "Best of the Valley" several times in years past. I was surprised to not find them in your database, so please take my recommendation into consideration and add them to your list.

John and his staff have taken great care of our vehicles since we moved to the area in 2001. We are so confident in their work that we have continued to go to their shop even after moving out of town. Great Job!

Back in town for the holidays, I was borrowing my brother's car when his brake lines gave out. John estimated the damage, and called my father directly to patiently explain the work needed and discuss whether it was worth fixing or transporting back to my parents' driveway 50 miles away. He even let us leave the car in his lot for two nights free of charge while we figured out how to move it. They take care of you there.

since John left, the service has slipped a little. the new guy who (Mike?) who seems to be running things has a different approach (e.g. trying to sell me things that aren't absolutely necessary, and being very defensive whenever I have general questions about the car/service), and a couple times I've caught him standing around chatting with a mechanic when someone should be working on my car, but I think they're still one of the best in the area. Junior is a great guy. I trust him completely.

This will be a long story, but worth it. I had a coupon for a $19.95 oil change from Lia Honda in Northampton. I went in on a Friday afternoon before a trip to a family event that weekend (a two hour drive from where I live). During the oil change an employee came out with some paperwork and told me my front brake pads were worn 95% and needed to be replaced and asked if I could do it today. Looking at the time (I was leaving that day) I told him no and questioned whether it was safe to drive the vehicle. He said "yes" but I needed to get it done within the next couple of weeks and it would cost over $200 (plus another $120 for replacing the brake fluid which was dark). So, I drove to my family's event (trying not to use the brakes as much and using my sister's car to run errands and shuttle family members around). On Monday after my return, I checked the CarTalk website to find other repair shops to get another estimate on the work. I found MUNRO and saw the wonderful comments about them. I called them, told them what Lia Honda had told me and they scheduled me for Tuesday. Though I did have to wait for a ride into work (their mechanic didn't show up at 8am as expected), Mike was very helpful even offering his own vehicle for me to drive to work. (I had a coworker pick me up instead.) Before I even got into work I got a call from Mike about my brake pads. He was surprised to find that they were NOT worn 95%, it was only about 60% worn and he advised me that they didn't need to be replaced at this time, but he would be happy to do so if that's what I wanted. I told him no. He also offered to make adjustments to the front, rear, and emergency brakes (including whatever cleaning and lubrication they needed) at no charge since I waited a 1/2 hr for a ride. When I arrived to pick up my car, it was still on the lift (as he told me it would be) so he could show me a brand new brake pad and my brake pads so I could see for myself that they were only worn about 60%. Trust me, I took that knowledge straight back to Lia Honda to complain to their manager who also took the brake pads off to "see for himself" that the pads were not worn 95%. Needless to say, I will NEVER GO TO LIA HONDA, but will ALWAYS go to MUNRO if I can. Thank you, for steering me in the right direction. You guys ROCK!

I knew where not to have work done in Noho, but I hadn't found a good place to have things done, so when I needed brake work done, I looked for places that I didn't know bad things about and tried Munro. They did a good job on the front brakes, so when I was having other problems, I tried them again. They handled it beautifully. This morning I needed some diagnosis for an engine problem. The guy I talked to understood what I meant, and after listening, suggested that I go elsewhere, because they didn't have the diagnostic equipment required.

I have used Munro now going on 6+ years. Kip (manager) is honest, forthright and is totally straight with the anticipated cost of a repair. He discounts repairs as much as he is able, and goes the extra mile with customer service. He remembers me and my car. He has even driven me home when the repairs are anticipated to take longer than a day. I would recommend Munro Muffler and Brake to anyone. You Rock, Kip!
