My wife had a 1990 240 DL and loved it. We would have
done (and paid) almost anything to keep the car running.
However, I was never able to communicate well with this
place. For example, if I wanted to wait for the car
during a minor oil change, I could never get the service
person to tell me when to bring in the car to insure it
would be ready in two or three hours! Even when I brought
it in and told him I'd be waiting at the local Starbucks,
he was always very, very non-committal as to whether the
car would be ready in a few hours (and we were talking
only about a simple oil change with no known mechanical
problems).
Then, we had air conditioning problems with the 240 and
the garage replaced much of the AC system. Price was
fine. The job was botched. First, the garage took two
extra days to finish the job (they obviously over-booked
their schedule), and (of course) they didn't tell us it
would take extra days to fix until we called (at the
original due date and time) and asked if it was ready.
Then, the AC system didn't work, and they had to re-do
it. Fine. They fixed it the second time, but the car
came back with the odometer broken.
We called and suggested that their AC worked might have
caused the problem? They seemed to say that was a
possibility, and they'd look at the problem at our next
regular servicing. At our next servicing, the car was
returned with the odometer not working. Only then did we
learn that the garage said it couldn't possibly have
caused the problem.
Well, we still don't know whether the AC work could have
caused the odometer problem - we aren't mechanical.
However, when something breaks during servicing there is a
natural suspicion that the servicing caused the problem.
If the garage says it was just a timing coincidence, then
why didn't they tell us that after our first call?
Overall, the garage lost our sense of trust after this
episode. Not long afterwards, we sold the 240 (to someone
who works on cars himself), and bought a new car that
could be serviced anywhere.

Having dealt with a particularly smarmy group of mechanics in my former hometown which shall remain nameless, the guys at BIMMERS clinic have restored my faith in mechanics in general. When I leave their facility, I don't end up with any "new" problems. They don't try to convince me that I need new brakes every 1000 miles and they, most importantly, are HONEST about any repairs that I do need. BRAVO! I recommend them hear
