Several years ago I went to get tires at a national tire
chain for my Voyager minivan. I was told that they could
not align my new tires because the steering gear tie rod
ends were worn. They quoted me a minimum cost of $800 to
change the entire steering gear, excluding the alignment
cost. The said the alignment cost would vary if the car
needed shims. I got a second opinion. I brought the
vehicle to Mr. Lopez and told him of their assessment. He
checked the vehicle and showed me the movement in my tie
rod ends. He said it was not necessary to change the
entire steering gear. He changed just the tie rod ends.
It cost me $150, including alignment. He originally
quoted me a slightly higher price, but when I went to get
my car, it was a few dollars less. He said that the parts
were a little cheaper than he estimated. That was the
first time that ever happened to me. It is always more
than quoted. When I drove my car it drove perfectly. It
did not drift to the side. Also, it seemed like the tires
lasted forever. That got me as a customer.
