The owner, Vern, answers his own phone sometimes. He'll try to diagnose the problem over the phone if possible and give you an idea what it might be. Best of all, his initial estimates are close to the final cost, but if not, he updates you along the way so you can approve or veto extra work. He's honest and competent, not to mention fair. For instance, my husband told him that we could get a discount on a part that our car needed through a discount plan we belong to. Vern either forgot or thought he could beat that price on his own so he bought it himself from a local store. It turned out that we could have gotten it for about $75 cheaper if he had used our plan. So Vern took that $75 off the bill, eating the difference, since it was his mistake.

The owner, Vern, is an acquaintance of a family member of mine, who recommended him. Especially as a struggling college student, I valued the service that Heartland Automotive has provided. Price always seemed reasonable, and Vern always took the time to explain the issues with me. He has handled both vehicles I have ever had. Even when they had been busy enough to have the answering machine pick up, I received a call back within the hour, and Vern explained to me what was likely the problem and what I could do to take care of it on my own, as well as what to watch out for if the condition was worsening.
