Neal is the most honest mechanic I know. He'll tell you when he is not comfortable doing something, and advise you if something is under warranty from Honda or Acura. He does used car inspections for free, giving you some leverage when bargaining on price with someone selling their car. When doing routine oil changes, he'll inspect the rest of the car and let you know if he sees something you should be aware of, or something you should look for in the upcoming year.

I recently took my '92 Civic in for a new muffler, and asked them to check my brakes at the same time. Now, I freely admitted that I can't remember the last time they were replaced (it has over 128,000 miles, so it must have been done at least once!) or even checked. It would have been easy to charge me for a brake job, whether it was needed or not, but they told me all I needed was a cleaning, and that's all I was charged for. That's the kind of honesty that keeps me coming back.

Imports Only (formerly Hondas Only) has worked on both of my Hondas. Once I found them I never went back to the dealership. They've been known to do extras without charging, and their good advice is always free. If they're not too busy, they'll even give you a ride to work. They can help you get a used Honda too. One of the guys there bought my beloved Civic wagon when I got a newer sedan. Most importantly, I trust them.

They are friendly and cheerful and work hard to accomodate your time frame. A modern version of the friendly mechanic at the gas station.

My Civic is 17 years old. I will keep it as long as Harriet and Kurt are around to work on it. I used to do my oil changes, but now they do, just so I can have them look the car over a couple times a year. They routinely talk me out of repairs I think I need. The Honda dealer wanted to do $1500 worth of work on the rear end about 3 years ago. Kurt said no. The rear end is still there. Kurt checks it at every oil change to sooth me.

I have been going to The Import Shop for over 10 years (starting back when they used to be called The Honda Shop before the dealerships made them change their name). They consistently shoot straight with me about what needs to be done now, what can wait, what the possible consequences of waiting might be & what really doesn't have to be done at all. They also are consistently a LOT cheaper than the dealerships. When they don't feel comfortable doing something themselves, they have told me I need to go to the dealership or another shop for that particular item. A great example: I recently saved over $2,000 by taking their advice rather than the dealerships & my Honda Civic & Honda Odyssey are running great!

I recently took my 2004 Honda Accord in for routine 90,000-mile maintenance, because my husband had used this shop before for his Acura and liked it. I asked for the price for each maintenance item in advance, and the final bill was as promised. It was considerably cheaper than having the work done by a Honda dealer.

I chose this service center based on previous reviews here on My experience did not match expectations, however. The shop waiting room was dirty and disorganized. While waiting there during my most recent visit, a ceiling tile fell out randomly and landed on the floor. The receptionist glanced at it and then went back to her paperwork, seemingly indifferent. A previous reviewer mentioned that the mechanic(s) would explain the repairs to her directly. In all of my visits, though, the mechanic spoke only to the receptionist (even while I was standing a few feet away). He showed no interest in dealing with me and made no effort to explain the repairs.
